I currently have a Canon i960, but I've learned over the years never substitute generic inks no matter what the advertisement says. Only Canon inks give me the quality I want and don't ruin the printer. I find the best prices for Canon cartridges on Amazon.
I have used compatible ink cartridges and Canon cartridges, the compatible brands don't come close to Canon brand.
I saved money on the off brands but the print head clogged,I have never had this problem with Canon cartridges.

I am a low volume user and don't see any upside to using ink from manufacturers I don't know. A couple of bucks a year just isn't worth it. I have bought a number of Canon ink cartridges and never had a problem.
