Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon BG-E2N Battery Grip for Canon 20D, 30D, 40D & 50D Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Package)Customer Review: You just cannot go wrong with this Summary: 5 Stars
Even amateurs should consider this addition to their Canon camera. Let's face it. If you are looking at this product at all it is because you likely spent over 1k on your camera. You may be having dreams of becoming a photographer or are just having fun learning something new.
This grip allows you to take better photos and at first you won't know why. This grip stabilizes your camera at any angle. The added weight assists in landscape format photos by centering the weight of the camera at the bottom middle. This slight added stability will help get better images with sharper edges. Portrait shots are stabilized by the lack of need to perform the "reach around" to release the shutter.
Customer Review: I leave it on my 40D all the time Summary: 5 Stars
One I got used to this thing, I started just leaving it on the camera. You never know when you're going to flip your camera on its side. When you do, it's nice to have the vertical controls right there, at your fingertips.
Does it's job, does it well. Feel durable.
I have seen another interesting option from Satechi--google them. They make a battery grip for Canon stuff that has a little LCD on it and some other neat features. Looks cool. I think it's even cheaper than the Canon one. Is it as durable? I can only speculate. Anyway, it's worth looking at before you make your decision. I am content with my canon grip however. As I said, it lives on my camera!
Customer Review: Why wait........ this is a must! Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent quality and it certainly adds versatility to your photo outings! It does add both weight and bulk to your camera, though this is not necessarily a terrible thing, as it makes your camera feel more stable in pose.
Camera straps seem to always be in the way when used in vertical mode.
I love the fact that battery life worry is a thing of the past!
Installation is simple and quick. It only involves the removal of the camera's battery cover (which is a factory option - nothing shady or difficult here).
I am glad I purchased this grip... I just wish that I hadn't waited a full year!
Customer Review: Great for balance and vertical shots Summary: 5 Stars
Enough positives being mentioned already. I am all for it.
Only negative I can think of is the wheel that turns the screw that connects to the camera. This wheel feels cheap, wobbling quite a bit more than it should. But once tightened, the grip is very secure and firm without any shake or crack as some others mentioned. My Canon grip for 350D Rebel XT is better, believe it or not. The wheel doesn't wobble, the whole thing is tight, and finish feels more solid.
And one wish - Canon will remove the power switch on the grip and let the camera switch drive both the camera and the grip. Hope this is not too hard for Canon.
Customer Review: Finally took the plunge Summary: 5 Stars
Since purchasing my 30D I have been interested in getting this grip.
Finally took the plunge and bought this about 1 month ago and couldn't be happier. The convenience of having an extra battery while shooting is great.
Seems to blend in very well with the stock body.
I'll agree with the other reviewers that and AF-on button would be nice but its not a huge deal.
I can see it getting a little heavy down the road but thats something I was prepared for.
Overall very nicely designed and definitely an accessory anyone shooting for long periods should have.
