I could have gone generic but this at ~$150 I couldn't pass up getting the authentic Canon accessory. Battery life is superb and the grip adds that extra touch to handling the camera. It feels like a real camera and not a toy. I swapped the functions of the '*' and the 'AF-ON' buttons so I can use the '*' to focus independently on the grip.
The grip attaches firmly to the camera with no play whatsoever. The battery compartment hides away inside so you don't lose it.
Must have accessory.

I'm short on time as well as money, sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and buy the very best the first time around.I have no experience with 3RD party Battery Grips but after reading a ton of their reviews,I've chosen to take the short cut to satisfaction and buy the Cannon Grip instead of trying to save some money and experiment with second best. The Cannon Grip is the real deal, no short commings and I find the dual battery level reading is right on the money.I really enjoy using this product.Customer Review: BG-E2N

The BG-E2N is a perfect complement to a good camera. I purchased it for my EOS40D. Even for landscape oriented shots, I have more camera to hold on to and that means a steadier shot and more comfort. In vertical shots, I can't imagine going back. The controls are perfectly placed and it makes shooting just that much more fun. Adding the BG-E2N allows the installation of 1 or 2 of the BP511A batteries. The extended battery life is a must on long shoots. Can't go wrong!Customer Review: The best accessory you can buy!

I've had this grip on my 40D for over 2 years and its still tight on the body with no flex whatsoever. The battery life you get out of this grip when adding the second battery is staggering. It wasn't uncommon for me to get 1800+ shots between charges while using IS lenses exclusively. I also love that you can use 1 battery in the grip while charging the second battery. Plus the beefy feel that it adds to the camera is great. Can't recommend this grip enough!Customer Review: camera grip

This is the second BG-E2N I own. It's great having the lithium batteries in it for more shooting. I'm using it on a 50d now, and I'm going to be getting a 40d. According to the instruction book, I should get more shots with the 40d. I guess I'll have to see. Having a grip is so convenient. It gives you a better grip on your camera, and I like the vertical release. That just make it a pleasure to use. I'm very happy I have these on both my EOS's.
