We had the standard battery that came with the camcorder. It only lasted for 59 minutes whcih was not enough when traveling or recording major events. Then we found out about this battery from Canon website. We ordered from Amazon which was cheaper than any store or website. The battery provided at least 120 minutes of recording time. It was great. We used it in our trip to italy and it was the right hing to buy. We were able to record full day of sightseeing without the fear of stoppage or worry about battery life. I got the Canon battery because it will activate the battery-usage indicator in the camera and it will be able to be recharged while attached to the camera. I think the knock-off brands, though cheaper, aren't capable of doing these things.
Oh, it does increase shooting time by at least 2x.

Well, at full charge (and this is in regards to use with the HF100), you get over 3 hours of operation time. There's little more to say than that but I'd say this is a solid purchase when you take into consideration that the battery that comes packaged with the camera only gives you about an hour, give or take a few. I guess it's worth mentioning that the battery sticks out a little bit from the rear but not that much that it causes any kind of problem whatsoever.
Easily recommended.

This battery increases the run time of my HF100 from about 70 minutes to over 180. This means that I can leave the camcorder on for an entire soccer game without worrying about running out of battery. It also means I'll have to buy a 16GB SD card so I can go for 2 hours of recording without swapping battery or memory card.
About the only negative is that it sticks out of the back of the camcorder, but that's to be expected since the extra battery capacity has to go somewhere.

This battery provides a good 3 1/5 hours of run time with my HG20 . The OEM lasted only 1 hour 10 minutes or so. It is slightly longer than the OEM battery extending approximately 1/16" beyond the camera body...very insignificant and it does not interfer with anything. Shop for a lower price but make sure you get the Canon model....instruction book warns against third party mfgs batteries not charging in the camera and not giving proper run time readout during camera operation.
