Customer Review: Burned too many times on cheap batteries! Get the real deal!

"Compatible" batteries can be so crazy cheap that I have fallen into their traps more than once. I know they don't normally have sensors so the camcorder can properly gage the amount of battery life yet and I know they void your camcorder warranty (and even some extended warranties and 3rd party replacement plans) but I was willing to deal with both short comings if they just worked like branded batteries (Sony Brand, Canon Brand, etc). Sadly my personal experience has proven that they do not. I found that equivalent/compatible batteries held less "charge" then real batteries, resulting in a lot less actual run/recording time. In some cases I would get 75% of the rated time but that would fall to less than half within a few charges--even with them being fully drained and fully charged before each use. Perhaps even worse, the cheaper batteries seem to fail much quicker than the real ones. I had one die after about 10 charges and another (different brand) after about 20 charges.
Where as my Canon brand BP-2L13 has been charged over 100 times so far without any bugs. It also holds a full charge longer between uses and gives more run time during use. I like that I don't have to worry about it exploding inside my camcorder any more either. (This actually happened to a friend of mine, who then had a dead camera which no one would cover even under warranty.)
So save the cost cutting to other things and get the real thing the first time and be done with it.
