Customer Review: Everything but the Kitchen Sink

I recently took this backpack on a trip to Las Vegas and loaded it up. Walking around Vegas, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, and quite a few other places was no problem and the backpack was quite comfortable on my shoulders.
Here's a run-down of what I was carrying around in the backpack. All directions are indicated as if you're looking at the back of the backpack (as you see it in the Amazon default image).
== Main Compartment ==
This is the compartment that rests against the user's back. You can divide this compartment up however you like (with the exception of the two main dividers) in order to fit whatever you're carrying.
There are two dividers that run up and down that divide the main compartment into three sections. You can then use the five included movable dividers to create smaller sections to your desire.
I used two dividers to create three similar-sized sections on the left. One section contains lens covers, extra batteries, etc. Another section contains extra tapes for my miniDV camcorder. And the third section contains battery chargers for all three cameras (DSLR, camcorder, and point-and-shoot).
I used one divider to split the middle section into two sections. The top section opens to the top of the main compartment to form a T-section that takes my camera and attached lens. The bottom section is used to hold my Panasonic miniDV camcorder.
I used two dividers to split up the right section into three smaller sections. One contains all my camera and backpack straps. One contains my Canon Elph (digital point-and-shoot). And the last section contains EVERY SINGLE CORD I have for all three cameras (DSLR, camcorder, and point-and-shoot).
In the flap section of the main compartment, I store my Digital Rebel XTi manual (just in case I forget something) and all of my Compact Flash cards and I still have plenty of room to add more if I wanted to.
All in all, my main compartment is not terribly full even with everything I have in it. I could easily add a couple of lenses, and even a lens hood, if I wanted to. I have no worries about needing to find more storage space as I add more equipment.
== Rear Compartment ==
This is the compartment furthest away from the person wearing the backpack and closest to the viewer in the Amazon photo. It uses a horizontal zipper for access and is big enough to fit my Digital Rebel XTi Field Guide and then some. I could easily stuff some more books in there if I had more to carry.
== Large Compartment ==
This is the compartment that opens like the main compartment (two zippers that separate and zip all the way to the bottom, though not quite all the way to the bottom on this compartment), but isn't quite as big. It's located between the main compartment and the rear compartment. This compartment has two elastic pouches that are great for storing smaller items that you may need quick access to, but might move around if left inside the larger compartment. For my trip, I had headache medication and a first aid kit in them and it was perfect.
The compartment also contains a hook that you can easily attach your keys to (or anything else you want quick/easy access to). While on our trip, I managed to fit several notebook-sized folders (contained 8-1/2 x 11 paper) in this compartment with no problems.
== Corded "Compartment" ==
The rear of the backpack contains a corded compartment-like area. At various times, I stuffed a day planner, stuffed animal (our version of a traveling gnome), and other items in there for quick storage. It's SUPER EASY to access items and the quick close/release of the cord makes it perfect for temporary and/or quick-access storage.
== Side Compartments ==
Either side of the backpack contains a side compartment. I used these for quick storage of filters (when I didn't want to access the main compartment) and for storing our friend's point-and-shoot. The side compartments are very easy to access when wearing the backpack as they're located approximately at waist level.

A few other notes include the straps that are all over this backpack. If you can't find a place to secure something on this backpack, then you're just not looking or you have a LOT of equipment. The two straps on the bottom of the backpack made carrying my tripod a breeze. I could quickly secure and release the tripod, ensuring that the backpack didn't prevent me from getting photos that required quick setup.
Also, the pulls on the zippers of the backpack seem very well made. They're little pieces of cord that contain a plastic end, which provides an actual pull. Most zipper pulls nowadays are just tied cord that end up loosening or fraying over time. I don't have that concern with these pulls. They appear like they'll last a long time.
Overall, I'm VERY pleased with my purchase and would recommend this backpack to anybody who has a good amount of photo equipment to lug around. If you just have a point-and-shoot with a tripod, this might be a bit much for you and if you're packing 15 lenses and 5 tripods, this might not be enough for you. But if you're somewhere in-between, this backpack is perfect.
