Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack 200EG for Canon EOS SLR Cameras (Black with Green Accent)

Customer Review: Use the straps!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, this product is wonderful. I chose this backpack over a couple of other bags because it was big enough to grow with me. Since this purchase, I've acquired an external flash and one more lens to add to my other 4. All this, plus my Canon Rebel fit perfectly in here, and there is more than enough room for my close-up set, tons of sd cards, manuals for camera and flash, and batteries.
I usually end up putting the contents of my purse in here when I go to, say, the zoo where I wouldn't want a purse in the way. It ALL fits, with PLENTY of room to spare! I'm completely happy with this bag, as far as space goes.

Now for the not-that-bad news...
I dropped my camera because of the way this bag was somewhat poorly designed. The zippers don't have any way of keeping themselves closed, so I was walking around with a semi-open bag and when I turned around to look, there went my camera! Everything survived and there was no hardcore damage (the plastic on my lens cracked just a teeny bit, but it works just fine).
Now, the sad part is that I could have prevented this. The minute it arrived, I took it out to play with it and noticed this was a potential problem. So I took the straps that were already attached to the bag (they have little plastic clips), and I removed and re-attached them so that the straps clasped in the front of the bag, keeping that compartment from opening up no matter what the zippers decided to do.

I hate having to modify my brand new products like that. I really wish Canon had thought of this, because it is a MAJOR drawback. However, if you're willing to spend the 5 minutes puzzling around with the straps, I say its worth it. This becomes a 5 star product that way. Otherwise it's a death-trap for your equipment!

Out of all the bags and backpacks I looked at (and boy did I do my homework!), this was the clear winner in terms of size, price, and convenience (it has these amazing little side pockets that can snugly carry a lens so you don't have to open the whole bag if you know that lens is gonna be used, and all the other pockets are just so convenient). I highly recommend it! Just please buckle up your camera!

Hopefully soon Canon realizes how silly it is to not have more security, and makes a better version...

Customer Review: Super bargain, great design.

I was not too sure about this bag before I bought it, as it is cheap. Similar bags from other brands cost far more than the Canon bag. After reading the reviews here, I gave it a try, and bought the Canon bag to make room for new equipment.

The bag is built very well. At least as well as my Tamrac bags. The dividers are well laid out, adjustable, stiff enough to hold their shape, and well padded. The stitching is solid, weatherproof construction abounds, and the zippers are protected by flaps of coated nylon. Very well thought out construction all around. The padded shoulder straps are very comfortable, and completely adjustable. I'm 6'5", and had the bag fitting like a glove in minutes. Adjustable quick release chest and waist straps keep the pack snug, even if you break into a full run.

Several outside pockets, and a large, expadable laceup pocket on the front cover will take care of lunch and drink storage. Accessory straps on the sides and bottom are well anchored, and can cary more than I care to take with me. The bag is light, not too big like some others, and still carries plenty. Mine is packed with a 30D (with a 17-55 IS 2.8 mounted), a 10-22 USM, a 50 1.4 USM, 430EX flash, factory hoods for all the lenses, a Canon S2 IS point and shoot, a tele converter for the S2, several filters, extra batteries, memory cards, various connecting cords, pad, pens, manuals, white cards, a Slik mini tripod, and still has room for a macro lens, and a 580EX flash unit that are coming soon :).

That makes for a dense package, but it is comfortable to wear, and can be carried in one hand by the top handle strap when it's not on your shoulders. The colors are subdued (I like that), and as was pointed out by another reviewer, you can remove or cover the shiny Canon logo at the top if you please.

This is a great bag, and a bargain to boot. At this quality and price point, it will become my standard kit bag for several body/lens combinations. Another one is on the way, and one well worn Tamrac bag is set to retire when it arrives.

Customer Review: Great Camera/general purpose backpack
Summary: 5 Stars

When I got my Rebel XT recently and a couple lenses to start out with, i thought to myself, "Hmm, what am I going to keep all of this in?" I happened to stumble upon this for about 33$ shipped. After checking out a couple of the side saddle type bags, i decided that i did NOT want one of those. I ended up determining that i wanted a backpack, and the 33$ price tag definitely fit the bill.

I got the bag about 5 days after i ordered it with ground shipping, very fast. It was packed nicely in the box and in the original packaging, of course.

The zippers open very easily, with a smooth pull action. The only complaint I would have about them, is the fact that they sometimes get caught on the material used to guard the zipper on the main clamshell compartment. The drawstring on the front is great for keeping a hooded sweatshirt or small jacket if you're going to be out for a while, or anything else that'll fit into it.
There is more than enough storage space for extra components, filters, batteries, CF cards, whathaveyou in the bag. the main compartment has nice padded dividers that are completely modular, and can be moved around to your specifications. the two tripod rings on the bottom of the bag are also extremely handy if you have a rather small and light tripod to carry. Mine however, is aluminum, and rather bulky, so whenever I walk with the tripod on, it hits me in the rear end/upper thighs. Needless to say- I want a carbon fiber one.
The material on the back is padded with a nice foam feel to it to help soften the bag against your back for any heavy loads. The overall construction of this is superb!
I fit a Rebel XT with a BG-E3 battery grip, 18-55mm II, EF f/1.8, and EF 28-80mm II with about half of the main compartment space left. Anyone with long telephoto lenses, especially L glass, this is the choice for you.

Customer Review: nice bag

I searched many camera websites until i finally resorted to the trusty Amazon website for locating this bag. I did a lot of research on the camera websites along with visits to Best Buy and Circuit City, and found that most of these bags are very similar in design and function. Sure, some of them have much larger pockets or more strappy things to hold stuff down, but this one just works right. I actually got it from UPS yesterday and loaded up my camera (Nikon D60), 2 lenses, 3 batteries, charger, USB cables, protective caps and cases for my lenses and filters, and still have half the bag empty. There are even outside pockets with velcro flaps to close them that are just the right size for smaller pocket cameras if you need a bag to carry any "compact" backups for those moments an SLR is too big or too expensive to risk losing or damaging during an outing (like 4-wheeling, sailboat racing, or rock climbing).

Each compartment is fully adjustable with the velcro dividers. Not rocket science, but it truly works well. Zippers are of good quality, straps are plentiful on the outside, and padding is thick enough to prevent major damage that would occur with generic backpacks. Bag looks good with the right color blends. I found many bags with the same design features that were double if not triple the price. Could not find obvious reasons to pay $100 when this one is just as comparable in function and sells (only on Amazon mind you) for less than $40. And since it is direct from Amazon, you can take advantage of the Super Saver Shipping deal!!!

Amazon is the best in service and i rate them as such. The bag is just another quality product at a good price that they have provided me.

Customer Review: So many pockets, I wish there was a guide. Amazong customer pics to the rescue!
Summary: 5 Stars

Although I dislike buying something such as a bag online, the numerous pictures of people placing their expensive DSLR cameras into the top section with the lens attached made me comfortable with the idea. I am concerned that the zipper at the top of the bag would some day scratch the LCD screen on the back of my Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black). On the plus side, the compartments hold the individual units, extra batteries, lens covers, and just about everything I can imagine.

I wish it came with an instruction book on what the best way to carry a tripod with the 'tripod' straps would be, since its internal structure is padded yet not armored to the point where I wouldn't fear a flexing or bending of the bag due to the weight of a tripod. Still, anything is better than carrying a tripod on a shoulder strap or in one hand when climbing a mountain to get a great shot overlooking the Valley Of The Sun or Sonoran Desert, and I imagine not falling over due to imbalance will pay off. I imagine that once I start obtaining additional lenses and extra doodads, the rest of the pockets will really pay off.

The best part about it is the price! The price of a "camera only" bag from Cannon tends to be more expensive than the full backpack. I am quite glad to have bought this, although I admit I have not taken it out for a real test. Considering I just spent all my money on an expensive camera, I feel safe knowing I am carrying it in this case on my desert adventures.
