Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack 200EG for Canon EOS SLR Cameras (Black with Green Accent)

Customer Review: Canon backpack for cameras et al
Summary: 5 Stars

Originally, I was looking at lenses and I saw this bag. The customer photographs showing applications kept bringing me back to it and I eventually succumbed and bought it. I was using a backpack similar but not specifically designed for photography. Once I moved my camera, lenses, hoods, Lightsphere system and other tools over to it though, I loved it. It is very flexible as the separators are fixed to the sides of the rows by use of hook and latch (Velcro equivalents) and they can be moved, easily, and the contents of the bag customized. This is one of those unusual cases where I found more I could do with the bag than I gleaned from the customer submitted photographs, althought those helped me to decide on purchasing it. Also, the price is very good for this item. I had price shopped several other bags in local camera shops where the price was more than $100.00 and in a few cases, more than $200.00. Those pricier bags are much better looking storage units but, think of the lens I can buy now with the money I saved on this packpack; perhaps I can get a second one, if I need it, to store the lenses that I saved money to buy by getting this back pack. I am very pleased with it.Canon 200EG Deluxe Back Pack + Deluxe Photo/Video 57" Tripod

Customer Review: Great spacious bag, though not easy access
Summary: 5 Stars

The bag is very spacious. Right now it fits my Canon Digital Rebel XT, with three lenses (a Sigma 70-300 mm [with hood], a Sigma 18-125 mm [with hood], and a Canon 50 mm), a flash (Speedlite 430EX), a macro adapter (Raynox DCR-250), a couple of filters, some spare batteries, battery charger, a minitripod, flash extension cord, remote flash trigger system, remote camera trigger, flash dome diffuser, white balance cards, flash gels, cables, some spare memory cards, and it still can fit a laptop, provided the diagonal is 13" or smaller. It also has straps that allow you to attach a full-size tripod to the bag. The bag seems quite sturdy. The interior organization can be changed by moving around pads that can connect to the sides of the bag and to each other using velcro.

The fact that you can carry the bag on your back (as opposed to your shoulder) makes it much more comfortable to carry around, but also has the drawback of making it harder to access stuff. You essentially need to rest the bag horizontally on some surface any time you want to access something in the main compartment (otherwise things might fall out). So this might not be ideal if you change lenses a lot or switch filters or flashes or what not, but otherwise I strongly recommend it.

Customer Review: LOVE this backpack!
Summary: 5 Stars

This backpack is just great. It currently holds my Canon Rebel XSi, a Canon Powershot S3, 6 lenses, flash, filter kit, and lots of miscellanous items. And there is even room to spare! The front pocket is big enough to hold my 9" laptop as well as some random things - a book, papers, pens, etc. The side pockets are great for a cell phone, extra batteries. There is a great tripod strap on the bottom and two straps on the sides of the bags I haven't quite figured out what to do with. All of the straps except the waist strap are removable if you don't want them. The color is a great subtle olive-y green. Very well made but not overly heavy. Just overall a great product! I also have a Lowepro CompuDaypack and I prefer this 200EG over that any day - much easier to get into - more compact - lighter.

Short update. After using this bag for a while, I'm less in love with it than I was. It's actually quite small and doesn't feel "right" after keeping it on my back for a day. It's a challenge to get in to - take backpack off - balance - unzip entire front to gain access - one lens out, one lens in - rebalance - zip up whole front, swing backpack back onto body...you get the idea. I love the style and the color, but I believe there are better bags to be had.

Customer Review: Hard to beat at this price!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm brand new to the DSLR world with my 40D and a couple of lenses and other random stuff. I wanted a bag that would hold everything and give me room to expand with more goodies in the future. The typical camera bags and the one over-the-shoulder strap just weren't going to cut it. I wanted a backpack. I also wanted to make sure I wasn't buying something cheaply made that would fall apart on me. LowePro has some nice choices, but I knew I could find something out there without breaking the bank on a LowePro. I stumbled across this 200EG here on Amazon for $37 and was sold.

It may not be the biggest and best photo backpack out there, but for under $40, how can you beat it? It has everything I was looking for. It is plenty big to hold everything I have now plus it gives me good room for expansion. It has plenty of pockets for manuals, books, batteries, chargers and any other random stuff I may have. And, it's comfortable and convenient to carry it around as opposed to some bulky over-the-shoulder camera bag swinging on my hip.

Can you find bigger? Yes. Can you find better? Probably. Can you beat the value? It would be very hard to! If you've got a camera and a mediocre collection of lenses and accessories, buy it. You can't lose.

Customer Review: Watch your zippers -2 stars!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's just good. It does what it's designed to do and it does it well. I pack heavy sometimes but I was just telling my friend Jay (hi jay), that I love it and it holds:

wait for it..

My Nikon FE with the 52 mm on it as well as a Yashica TLR, an Olympus XA, a Holga, a Viv 1:1 macro that about 5 " tall, tons of film,(35 and 120/220) mega accessories and tools from empty handroll-canisters to cable release, filters, rubber donkeys and even Designer vinyl toys 6 inches and lower. It also holds a Nalgene bottle from time to time in the string part on the outside and I haven't even put too much crap in the outer pockets yet. More film? yeah...

EDIT!!

I have had this bag for over a year now and was originally pretty happy with it. I even recommended it to a friend toting similar equipment. The cheap zipper failed at the corner on one side and his bag flopped open, spilling his lens on the ground and breaking it. The zippers on my bag have also completely failed now rendering the bag useless. Canon barely acknowledges the product exists and I'm past any compensation for a return from Amazon. Two stars are because it was great for a year, now useless without engineering some velcro or alternate zipper. Beware.
