I bought this kit becasue I really wanted the flash for my 2010 Canon PowerShot. I love that camera, but the flash is a bit weak, and you can't use the flash for subjects more than about 5 feet away.
The value of this kit is phenomenal, especially considering that there were two batteries for the flash included. I was disappointed that the batteries were not rechargable (I kind of thought they were, and that a charger would be included, but that's not the case), but that made me even happier to have the spare.
I have ended up using the tripod a great deal as well. It's super-easy to use and very handy. The cleaning kit... not so much! If you take great care of your camera, you'll never need it. The case is excellent though, with room for the camera plus everything included in THIS kit except the cleaning kit. (Camera, tripod, flash, batteries.) The flash itself it really easy to use - it automatically detects the camera's built-in flash and goes off at the same time. The only downside is that it can be set off by others taking flash photos in the nearby vicinity, so it's best to keep it turned off until you're ready to shoot.
Overall, I highly recommend this package if you need a flash for your Canon Powershot. It's a much better value than buying just the flash.
Description of Canon HF-DC1 High Power Flash + Deluxe Accessory Kit
In a first for its digital camera line-up, Canon has introduced an optional zoom flash, the HF-DC1. Linked to the zoom lens, the zoom mechanism narrows the flash's angle of throw to extend flash range at the telephoto end and further extends the options for night and indoor shooting. With a guide number of 18 (ISO 100 meters), the slave flash automatically fires in-sync with the camera's in-built flash, ignoring any pre-flash. It can be adjusted to three power output settings based on the aperture value of the camera. The unit attaches to the camera with a supplied bracket that maintains the ability to mount both camera and flash on a tripod. This attachable supplementary flash can be used to capture photographic subjects that are too distant for the built-in flash to illuminate. The range of the flash is approximately twice the range of the camera's built-in flash.
