Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon HV20 3MP High Definition MiniDV Camcorder with 10x Optical Image Stabilized ZoomCustomer Review: A great camera Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this camera before taking a Northern European cruise. The picture quality is excellent. It is small enough to carry very comfortably in a purse. We are delighted with the videos (except for photographer errors). We left it on the cinematic mode for the trip. Before leaving home, we compared the regular HDV mode and the cinematic mode and it was difficult to tell much difference. My only complaint (and this is a small one) is that it is a little awkward to hold and operate with one hand. I also wish that it had more emphasis in the guidebook about video editing.
Customer Review: Just get one already... Summary: 5 Stars
I'm going to keep this short because there are several longer reviews that you can read.
Basically, if you want to get into some cheap indy filmmaking, or just want a good home movie camera, this is the one. Yes, it's got its flaws, but with some good accessories, you'll be golden.
So get this, a Rode VideoMic, a new battery, maybe a lens hood, The DV Rebel's Guide, and you'll be all set. [...]. You can get some great images with this camera if you know what you're doing.
Oh, and 24p. It shoots in 24p. Get one now.
Customer Review: Vibrant Colors and Super Sharp Image Summary: 5 Stars
I am very pleased with my new HV20. It exceeds my expectation for color saturation (since it does not have 3CCD's) and the sharpness and detail when shown on my 1080i HDTV is nothing short of excellent for an amateur outfit.
One gripe is the sloppy fit of the battery. I fell in love with HDTV when I watched my first programs and now I'm feeling sorry for everyone still filming home videos with SD camcorders. You should get one - $900 is cheap for what you get (assuming you care about the film and subjects you shoot).
Customer Review: I am very pleased Summary: 5 Stars
So far I had no problems or complaints with my camera. I thought I will have difficulties with PC/TV connections and video editing. Everything came really easy and simple. The first day I received it, I made a small movie and converted it in DivX and watched it on my PS3. The camera has this cheap feeling quality, but you will get over it pretty soon. Other minuses like viewfinder, size, design and accessory shoe cover are not making me feel bad.. I am indifferent to them. That's why I would only recommend HV20. Great buy
Customer Review: Great camcorder Summary: 5 Stars
I bought HV20 to replace my 7 year old Canon ZR25. It performs much better than the ZR25 under low light condition. The high def recording it awesome. You can buy a camcorder under 300 dollars, but I think the extra 400 dollars on HV20 is well worth it. I did not notice any motor noise, maybe my ears are not that sensitive. Right now, I export the HDV content as DV to my computer to burn DVD. Once the HD DVD/Blue Ray becomes abundent, I can burn the content in hi-def. Overall, it is a great camcorder.
