Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon I-9900 Photo PrinterCustomer Review: Great tool for beginning graphic designers! Summary: 5 Stars
As a graphic design student entering the "real world" I needed a printer that would live up to professional standards in my portfolio. The i9900 is that printer. I already own the i960 and am so pleased with that I chose this over the Epson 1280 which many of my classmates bought. On the i9900, images turned out beautifully and the text always seemed crisp. I print from pdfs, so I don't know about a previous review that says text not in pdf is not as crisp. One issue I noticed was the extra greens in the prints. Sice this printer has the extra red and green tanks, the greens tend to be more saturated than in the smaller i960. A few adjustments in color though and it turns out fine. I also love the individual ink tanks. As mentioned earlier, I also have the i960 and they both use the same tanks, which is even more convenient. As far as paper goes, I do like the canon glossy pro photo paper for photography (haven't really tried much else here). For projects that involve text though, I have been using the Epson matte heavyweight paper. It comes in 13x19" and prints quite nicely. After 3 months of heavy use, I am still very happy with my purchase and know I will be for years to come.
Customer Review: more than I expected... Summary: 5 Stars
I recently bought the Canon I9900 after much research and I could not be happier...this printer is much more than I expected from any photo printer...I almost don't like to use it for simple posters and anything but the best photos it is to good for that and I am thinking of getting a cheaper printer for my business for the less complex things...if you just want something to print some family photos or use for garage sale flyers do not get this printer...while the software that comes with is does makes good photos look great a great photos better I am pretty sure that it comes with most canon photo printers...so unless you are looking for studio quality 13" x 19" prints I repeat do not spend the money on this printer it is too good for the average photo...you will see every flaw and if the resolution of the photo is low, every pixel... But, if you want the best quality wide format color photo printer in the less than $1000.00 price range, than this is the printer for you...it is well worth the money for the serious photographer and graphic designer...and like I said much more that I expected
Customer Review: professional quality printer... Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my i9900 for approximately six months now. I am still amazed at the quality of prints that come out of it. I shoot photos with a Canon EOS-1d Mk II. So it's a given that it helps to have a camera that can utilize the capability of the printer. People that I show the prints to cannot tell the difference between an actual photo lab and the i9900's prints. One word of advice, the best paper to use with this is Canon's Photo Paper Pro. I have tried other brands and Canon's Photo Paper Plus. None of them quite have the punch that the Pro Paper does. When you have a high magapixel camera, Pro paper, and the i9900, it is next to impossible to produce a bad photo. Oh, one more thing. I only use my i9900 for photos. I have a seperate printer for documents and such. By only printing borderless 8.5 x 11 photos on Pro Paper, I can average 50 photos per each pair of photo cyan ink tanks in the i9900. You don't use the other colors as much during photo printing. Those two ink tanks cost about $12 each. So you can get 50 beautiful full page photos for $24-$25. Not bad at all.
Customer Review: GREAT Printer!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Just got the printer in and set up. Setup was a breeze. The only drawback that I've seen is the size: it's definately one that you need a lot of open deskspace for as fully opened (with the trays in use, it has about a 4 square foot footprint. At the same time, the size of it is to allow it to print 10x13s, so... I've been running photos through it without trouble and the printing quality is fantastic. I wanted a printer that could print photos just like a professional studio, and from what I've seen thus far, this one does the trick. Definate two thumbs up on this one!
December 2006 Edit:
We've been using this printer now for 15 months and am still exceedingly happy with it. I've found that it burns through ink in a hurry, but that's about what one can expect with a printer like this. Both my wife and I have printed off exceptional photos with this printer that we've framed and put into displays that always turn heads. I don't plan on buying another printer to replace this one for the foreseeable future as we love it.
Customer Review: Awesome printer Summary: 5 Stars
I have always had HP printers but I was tired of the high ink cost. I did my research and the Canon came out on top. Now that I have this printer I couldn't be happier. The prints are absolutely gorgeous and the print speed is blazing. The added software is great too. No more fumbling around to figure out how you want to print or what you want to print. The Easy Print software lets you preview all of the pics in a folder, lets you choose which ones to print, how many per page, and then in a few seconds the photo(s) are there for you to see (true bordless if you chose that option). You will need more desktop space especially if you had an HP before. The footprint on this printer is rather large. Initially, when the paper feeds it makes a rather loud noise but after that it is quiet. There is a quiet print option but I haven't tried it yet. Most reviews I read gave the Canon below excellent marks on printing typed text. I am very pleased with the photo print and the text print. I highly recommend this printer.
