Customer Review: good ink
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered the black and color and they came in one box only days later.

Works just fine in my printer. It should, it is from Canon.

Customer Review: Greatest Ink Cartridges Yet
Summary: 4 Stars

I really do like my Canon printer that I use this cartridge with. I second the comments on choosing the fast print or draft option to extend your black ink. The same is true if you are making copies too. Just select a lighter setting. I found that the next to the last darkness setting works great for all of my copies.

I use the "low ink" message to remind myself to buy another cartridge, but I find that I will often have up to 4 weeks before I actually have to put a new one in. Print until there is no ink left.

I have tried refilling ink cartridges and buying the generic one also, but none of those options lasted as long as the actual Canon 40 Black Ink Cartridge.

I also noticed that this particular cartridge doesn't "gum up" like some of the generics have. It provides very clean printing quality. Definitely buy the Canon cartridges instead of the generics! Also buy the color cartridge at the same time if you can...buying both will qualify you for the free S&H.

Customer Review: Does what it claims to do
Summary: 4 Stars

Yes, this is a case of getting just what you thought you would get when you order this item. It is a well made plastic cartridge that holds a small number of ml of black ink. It is a genuine Canon product and thus your Canon printer will recognize it as such, and initially set the ink remaining indicator to full. (This is not the case with a remanufactured item. It should be noted that the supplied software will indicate that there is a low ink condition far in advance of when you actually run out of ink. Just keep using the existing cartridge until it really is out of ink. As usual Amazon came through with reasonably prompt "Super Saver" shipping. All in all highly recommended for those who have a compatible Canon printer (e.g., Pixma MP160) and are finding that there is actually no ink left in the current cartridge. Make sure to recycle these too; both for your benefit and as a good thing for the Earth.

Customer Review: Helpful Hints for this Cartridge
Summary: 4 Stars

My first PG 40 lasted only 2 months, disappointing as cartridge cost was one of deciding factors in buying my Canon Pixma MP 170. $20 (Staples) was low compared to previous printer cartridge but not for two month usage. With next cartridge, I used "fast" print option and continued to use for 1-2 months after "low ink" message appeared, this one lasted 5-6 months, which is o.k. for cost. I then had one refilled at Cartridge World and it lasted only 45 days, tho I was doing somewhat more printing during that time period. Use "fast/draft" option, and ignore low print message,--- just print till it's out of ink ----and it will last much longer. I will probably buy from Amazon as cost is lower (providing you order $25 and get free S & H) and this is hard to find in my area.
