Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PIXMA MP560 Wireless Inkjet All-In-One Photo Printer (3747B002)

Customer Review: Excellent First Impression
Summary: 5 Stars

I received my printer today, and had it fully configured on my wireless network within minutes. The push-button wireless setup was excellent, and worked with my Linksys router with no need to enter passwords or anything else. Immediately after I configured the printer, I was sending pictures from my phone to the printer, and by the time I walked into my office, they were waiting for me.

I tested it on my Windows Vista desktop by printing a photo from a Kodak Photo CD I had developed recently. Side-by-side, the original hard copy from the photo lab and the printed 'copy' were identical.

I also made a test scan of a magazine page, and it handled the glossy paper perfectly. The image, when zoomed in, was very good. I could see individual dots of ink on the printed page. I scanned at max resolution and the process was painless and fairly speedy given the resolution I requested.

I've gone through a good number of printers in my life, although I've almost always made a generational leap with each new model. This was my first wireless printer, but I couldn't have asked for an easier configuration. Overall this is an excellent multi-function printer and scanner. I do wish it had BlueTooth included. That is apparently a $30 upgrade by means of a dongle. It installed just fine on my Mac, and the software included is actually pretty solid (only tested on my Windows desktop, not my Mac).

The BlueBox discount made it a no-brainer, but even the 'normal' discounted price is well within the range I would pay for this printer. I'm actually kind of excited about a printer...

Customer Review: Unexpected Surprise
Summary: 5 Stars

What an unexpected surprise this printer turned out to be. I bought it to print color pictures from our vacations and it turned out to do so much more. To begin, I love that it is wireless, different computers in the house can print to it without being hardwired directly. The wireless programming was easy to follow and worked on the first try.
Our text printing needs don't require laser quality - it's your basic recipes, airline tickets, vacation schedules, online purchase receipts, bank statements, to-do lists, the occasional web site page and Google map directions. And, for all the above - the text is clear and very sharp, perfect for our use.
Where this printer really excels is in printing color pictures. My wife and I are simply amazed at the quality of pictures we get. Colors are vibrant, natural and true to the original picture. There is a slight red overtone on tanned skin on some pictures but on sunsets the yellows, reds and dark colors blend smoothly. The printer is very quiet and fast.
The ink is reasonable and easy to find. We've replaced two color ink cartridges for a very minimal cost and we are still running on the original black ink cartridge which is ½ full, impressive since we bought this printer in December and we've been using it on a weekly basis.
Lately I have been using the scanner feature for scanning pictures, receipts and other things on to the computer. It's fast, easy to use and the included software really helps to get the best of your scans and color pictures. To top it off, there is an iPhone APP that I am now using quite frequently.

Customer Review: For the price, it'll be hard to beat
Summary: 5 Stars

I've now had the printer set up and running for about 4 days and have used the heck out of it. Here's my observations:

My OS's: Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Home Server

- Hardware setup was a breeze - follow the quick setup sheet and you'll be done in 5-10 min
- Software setup went very smoothly
- Wireless setup couldn't have been easier - router is a Dlink DIR-655 N router that supports push-button setup so you don't have to enter in the 9,000 digit wireless security - was beautiful - worked as advertised - pushed a button on the printer, pushed a button on the router, and wa-la. Everything worked perfectly
- Bottom paper tray holds plenty of paper
- Love the small footprint of this thing - coming from a Pixma MP-830 so this thing's about half the size with nearly the same amount of functionality (minus fax and a few other options)
- Super quiet
- Fast printing on standard quality - slows down drastically on fine quality printing
- Ink is less expensive than some of the competitor's printers
- Price - unbelievable how inexpensive these things are now - for ~ 90, you will be hard-pressed to find another printer with these amount of features and print quality for the same price - incredible value
- Copier works great - ran several B&W copies and the copies looked great

I'll update review in the future with additional thoughts. So far I'm very pleased. For the price of the printer plus 2 additional black cartridges, I was just over $100 and that's a bargain for anything that works as well as this has.

Customer Review: Canon 560 - Wow
Summary: 5 Stars

So, I've been out of the printer loop for a while. It's been about 6 years since I lived in a household that had a printer (since I just printed from the library in college + they just seem to be too much hassle). Well, I finally graduated and now have my own place and was getting tired of having to print simple things like 'print lables' off at work. I decided it was time to get a relatively inexpensive printer and came across this one on Newegg on Black Friday for a pretty good deal. ($80)

I had mediocre to low expectations from a photo printer (since I haven't played with one in 6 years) and was BLOWN away when I saw the quality of my first 4x6 print! I was very, very impressed. I was definitely not expecting store quality prints (these might even be better). I used the Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II that came with the printer.

Granted, the ink is pretty expensive for this thing, but I really dont know how many pictures to expect from 1 set of cartridges, so time will tell more about that. However, the quality is really good, so I'm happy.

Again, I am very pleased with this purchase. It is gonna make me get much more into printing photos than I had originally planned. (I'm thinking, it will make for some wonderful xmas presents for the fam and gf)

So, there you have it. An opinion from someone who didn't expect much - but, I would like to point out that I am a software developer, so its not like I'm completely out of tune with technology, either. Hope this helps someone who may be a printer newbie who's straddling the fence.

Customer Review: Great Printer, Scanner, Single Sidee Copier
Summary: 5 Stars

I have only had the printer for four weeks so I cannot comment on Ink usage or long term problems.

I unpacked it, plugged it in and installed the software. The only painful part of the process was entering in the WEP key in hex. The character selection process was a bit awkward. Other than that it was a breeze. Of course the printer is sitting four feet from the wireless router.

It works well with Windows XP and Windows 7 x64 both as a printer and a scanner. I have used it to scan in documents for WinFax Pro 10.03 (Windows XP x86) and FaxTalk Messenger Pro 7.5 (Windows 7 x64).

Photos printed on photo paper are incredible.

It allows for manually feeding which many all in ones seem to lack. This means you can print on checks, envelops, different size photo paper, etc.

The standalone copy function is easy to use for single sided copies and produces excellent results even for color copies on standard paper. The only drawback is if you want to make two side copies. It is painfully slow. It does not start the printing process until you have scanned both sides of the original. Then it spends a good deal of time digesting it before it prints the first side, draws the paper back in and prints the reverse side. It does not appear to have enough power/memory to allow you to continue scanning while it is printing.

I bought this to replace an aging bubble jet printer and an aging scanner. But the print quality is such that I may retire my Okidata 10ex laser printer when I use up the spare toner cartridge.
