I owned a canon i475d printer prior to this but that printer recently stopped working so I had to find another. I researched many reviews and found that the MP610 provided the best overall balance of high photo quality and good text printing. After seeing the photos that I have printed since receiving this printer, I am extremely happy with this purchase. I thought the i475d printed good photos but the MP610 photos are so smooth, they are near studio quality. The only negative comment that I found in the reviews was that some skin tones had a slight orange tint but I have not seen that with the photos I have printed so far. I have also used the copier on this printer which also performed excellent. The printer uses 5 different ink cartridges which were very easy to install and I think will save money in the long run since you only need to replace the color that is low unlike printers that use a single color cartridge. The speed at which photos are printed is also very good. But I will say that it is critical that you use high quality gloss photo paper if you want photos to look the best. I previously owned a Canon MP 520, and upgraded to this one because I wanted to be able to do duplex. Like most Canon's, this printer is a bit bulky, but what do you expect from a multifunction?
This printer does everything you want it to do! Prints great, copies fast and scans very fast as well. The display and operating panel make it super intuitive, no need to read 50 pages of manuals just to make a copy.
I use it mostly to print out lecture notes for class, and it prints fast at a consistently high quality. Lots of ways to change quality, etc, if you're looking for that kind of thing.
My favorite thing is the two paper-feed options. You have a cassette at the bottom and a feeder on the back. I don't know of any other printer in this price/quality category with that feature. It's very handy if you use more than one paper size or quality, or for printing envelopes. No need to take out all the paper and stick in one envelope - you just press the paper feed button on the control panel (or chose the paper tray on your computer), and print.
Overall, I can highly recommend this printer.

If you are looking for a GREAT QUALITY photo printer that doesn't go through ink like a baby going through diapers the Canon Pixma MP610 is the one you want. I love this printer. Very solid construction, easy to use, fast printing, and great quality pictures. Did I mention the ink? Since receiving this printer in mid July I have printed at least 120 high quality photos and countless other documents. The yellow, cyan and magenta cartridges are still showing half full and the black cartridges, (one small and one large, not sure why), are doing even better. The small one is still full and the large one is 3/4 full.
I have owned my share of printers...HP, Lexmark, and Brother most recently. The Canon Pixma MP610 is by far my favorite. After having been sorely disappointed in my past printer purchases I did some research at consumer reports and was impressed with the specs on this one. I can highly recommend this printer!
One note...I did not realize until after ordering that this All-In-One printer did not include a fax as my others had. Even though I will now need a separate fax this printer is well worth it.

I researched many printers before deciding on the Canon Pixma MP610. Initially, I did not think I needed the flatbed scanner/copier feature, since I already had a scanner. I have used this printer so often for copies, it is really great! There is no need to even turn on the computer if I just need a quick copy. The photos print fast and beautifully with this printer! Yesterday, I actually used the provided software to print 2 8 1/2 x 11 borderless photos to show off some family portraits where I work. I work at a swimming pool, so I don't like to take original portraits. All I can say is WOW! I was blown away by the quality of the prints! They look just as good as my portraits with some slight color differences. I'm sure I could tweak the settings to change the color, but I don't see any need. Why did I wait so long to use the printer software for my photos? It's just easier to do what I had been doing, I guess. I have been using the printer for about 3 months, and I have not needed to replace ink yet. I think the ink price is reasonable at $12-$15 per cartridge. Finally was able to find a color inkjet that prints true colors. For years my 'hp Photosmart 7150' gave me brown or pink/purple when I requested yellow. Pink when I wanted red. Started believing yellow was a shade of purple. Thrilled to be rid of those three color cartridges which always ran out of yellow first. Then you have a cartridge that still had plenty of the other colors but forget - yellow. Made a DVD label for Resurrection Sunday and wanted the background to be a bright rising sun! I had the prettiest pink and purple sun you've ever seen. If you are still using the three color hp cartridges, break free and witness true colors again!
This printer is fast. I also have a hplaserJet 4200 and this little inkjet prints as quick and clear as my laserJet. I also like the idea of processing photos without using my computer. What more can I say...When my laser gets old you can bet I'll be looking at Canon for updating my laser printer.
Good going Canon! Keep up the quality products and if your not No. 1 now, it won't be long.
