Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon Pixma Pro9000 Professional Large Format Inkjet Printer (9995A001)

Customer Review: A Great Printer
Summary: 5 Stars

This printer was purchased as a replacement for an Epson Photo 1280. What an improvement! More detail, much better color and so much faster! I'm delighted with the image quality and, so far, the quiet operation of this printer. My only small complaint is the considerable mechanical shock the printer transmits as the print head reverses direction. I have the printer on a strong steel rack along with (3) heavy laser printers and a scanner, and when the PRO 9000 is printing there is considerable side-to-side movement of the rack. Enough that I certainly would not try to use the scanner at the same time.

I also use the PRO 9000 to print absolutely beautiful CDRs. The addition of the Canon "Type E" CD tray ($17), free Canon print drivers, and a simple firmware switch enables the North American version of the PRO 9000 to function like the versions sold worldwide which come equipped with this feature. Using Verbatim "Silver" printable CDRs results in spectacular and very fast CD printing using Canon ink.

I purchased the printer along with some extra ink cartridges and Canon paper from Cameta Camera through Amazon. I couldn't be more happy with their servace: A fair price, fast shipping and excellent packaging.

Customer Review: Fabulous prints that finally match my monitor
Summary: 5 Stars

First and foremost, this is an amazing printer. After debating back and forth between this and the Pro9500, I decided to save the money and go with the Pro9000. I'm not disappointed in the slightest and 40-60 years from now, I probably won't care that I didn't use pigment based inks on these prints

It does take up quite a bit of room, but handling all the various types of paper, I would expect it to. There are wheels to help you move it around on your shelf - if you have it on a big shelf. I use a moveable cart to allow access to the back.

I previously had a Canon i900D that I could never get quite calibrated to match my monitor. I tried Print-Fix Pro and Spyder2, but it never quite met my expectations. I plugged this thing in, chose the correct profile and was immediately rewarded with something I'd been missing in my other prints - dark greens and vibrant reds. Those two dedicated cartridges really do help.

I sold some prints I had taken in Sonoma to friends that couldn't believe that I had 13x19" prints less than 24 hours after returning from the trip. Now my wife wants large prints of everything - she's just as hooked as I am. Buy one and you won't be disappointed in the slightest!

Customer Review: Great Printer
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this printer from Amazon with a $100 rebate back in January (2008). After watching the price for a month or so, I purchased it for $[...] with free shipping. When you factor in the $[...] rebate and no sales tax, I figure I got a great deal on a great printer.

I have to admit that it doesn't get heavy use, but I have printed approx 10 8x10s, 15 iron-on transfers, and around 20 DVDs. Now that I am comfortable with the resulting print, I am waiting until I need to change ink (for the first time) before attempting the 13x19 paper.

The prints and DVDs look wonderful. Granted, the USA printer doesn't "officially" advertise DVD printing (actually Canon will deny that the USA printer will), but with changing the menu to Europe and purchasing a DVD tray from a popular online bidding site, I am able to print on DVDs that are photographic quality.

This was an upgrade from a 5 year-old Canon S820 - which is still working perfectly, but I thought I *needed* to print 13x19 and DVDs. With the exception of the printable DVDs, I only use Canon products on the Canon printers and may be the reason that I have experienced such consistency in the quality prints.

Customer Review: A Professional Printer at Last!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been eyeing this printer since it came out. I have always wanted a printer capable of producing more then just 8-1/2 x 11 prints that wasn't going to break the bank. Epson had some great printers that fit the requirements I was looking for, but the price was way too much and I quite frankly a devoted Canon user. When this printer dropped below the $[...] mark and included a $[...] rebate I couldn't resist. I promptly set it up as soon as it arrived and started printing. I highly recommend purchasing somne of Canon's Fine Art Paper line to experiment with the different looks of their high-end papers. The prints that were produced are nothing short of amazing. The quality is incredible. I was a little concerned since my prior IP8500 was also an 8-color ink system using the same color inks. Granted the Fine Art paper line made a big difference in the output, but printing on the same paper I also saw quite a bit of a difference as well. The colors are much more saturated and vibrant. My guess is they are getting ready to introduce another printer in this line with the low price seen here, but I can't imagine being able to increase the print quality. It is already outstanding!!

Customer Review: WORKHORSE HIGH QUALITY PRINTER
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this printer for about 3 years. I am a photographer, Web designer and author. Previous to the Canon I owned more Epsons than I can count. Every Epson had the head clogging problem and cleaning the heads to get a perfect print was time consuming and ink wasting. You can let this Canon sit for weeks, fire it up and print a perfect image every time.

I wrote a book and wasn't sure how it would sell so I started printing the front and rear convers on this printer. I printed the book pages on a duplexing, high speed HP LaserJet. The book has sold well and I continue to print the front and rear covers on thick photographic paper. I do this 100's at a time and there is never a burp. Every page is perfect and the print speed is very good.

I use various brands of photographic paper. In fact, I have never used Canon papers. I have my monitor calibrated but not the printer. However I make a slight adjustment in the image brightness and the prints match perfectly.

Yes this thing is heavy and has a large footprint. However, if you are looking for a commercial quality workhorse, this is the unit for you.
