Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon Pixma Pro9000 Professional Large Format Inkjet Printer (9995A001)

Customer Review: Fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

(Warning - my first amazon review):
This printer produces outstanding results. I have had a few other Canon & HP photo printer. While I have always had a slight preference for the 'look' of Canon printers, the Pro9000 has just blown me away.

As I have already stated, the printer produces amazing results. The other aspect that I find extremely useful is the flexibility built into the Easy-PhotoPrint Pro Photoshop Plug-in. This creates all the customizability I need to ensure that my prints come out exactly as I expect - though I would recommend playing around with the options to find out how they work.

The Canon Fine-Art papers are terrific, but I would warn that they are not printable borderless - Museum Etching & Photo Rag have max prints sizes around 11x16 or so, not the full 13x19. A black & white picture printed with the 'greyscale' option checked (it uses only black ink) rivals any black & white produced in a dark room.

In summary this printer is a fantastic deal for anyone looking for a 13x19 printer that is easy to use & produces results better than you can find at a photo-lab.

Customer Review: PixmaPro 9000 Great Results
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a PixmaPro 9000 in late March. I own a Canon i960 which has produced great 8X10 and 8.5Xll prints including many entered in local camera club competition. The larger Pro 9000 images are every bit as good as those from the i960 using the Canon Easy Photo print program. Printing from Photoshop Elements, the best results come with Color Management turned off ("none") and I like the Colormetric look rather than the Perceptual. The results on Canon Photo Paper Pro are supurb but the paper is pricy. I have successfully used both Ilford and Brilliant (available from Calumet Photo) papers. The Brilliant is available 11x17 so I can print an 11x14 and only trim one side to mount it on an 11x14 board. It is also a real bargain at $ 30.00 for 25 sheets of 11x17. I thought the initial prints were too blue so I turned off Auto Color and manually reduced the Blue slider -12 and got nice gray shadows without too much blue in them. I would recommend this machine to anyone wanting a larger printer that is easy to set up and use and is willing to make a few test prints to get their color preferences on the button.

Customer Review: The real deal
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a professional photographer/writer ([...]) (see my books for sale here at Amazon) and I've used the Pro9000 printer for about a month and it is as good as or better than everyone says. Every professional (or those who want to see their photos as good as they can be) need this printer. The photos want to jump off the paper. I needed the best of the best (yet something I could afford) because the photos off this machine were going into a museum. I experimented with various papers and settled on Canon Photo Paper Pro as being the best for this printer. The printer uses lots of ink. However, that is to be expected--you can't have great photos without using a lot of ink. You can get the ink cheaper than retail via the internet. However, equivalent cartridges did not work--I had to get official Canon cartridges. Do not force equivalent cartridges into the machine if they do not feel like they are fitting properly. And then there is the alleged problem of having the ink within the equivalent ink cartridges fade after a year or two. Allegedly the Canon ink will not fade--allegedly.

Customer Review: Excellent Printer at good price.

I have been waiting for this printer ever since it was announced and also hoping that the price would go down from its initial MSRP price of $[...]. Amazon finally came down to a price that I deemed acceptable and I bought it at a net cost of $[...] delivered.

Being my first photo printer, I had some trepidation with it, not knowing for sure what to expect. However, I have to say that I am overall very satisfied with the result. Photographs are really meant to be printed instead of viewed on a monitor. So far I am happy with the results on Photo Paper Pro papers. I am waiting for the arrival of my order of the Fine Art papers to see how they fare.

The only issue (albeit a major one) is that a lot of flesh tones tilt toward the red, but the solution is to color management within the easy photo print pro plug-in that comes with the printer. The following review has a good review on how to use it.

I believe that most people will find this printer a great addition to their hobby.

Customer Review: I Love This Printer!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was sad to see some customers have apparently had problems with this printer. I have to say my experience has been just the opposite. I don't have one bad thing to say...It arrived three days after I ordered it ( Free Shipping Too!!!) It was easy to set up, and the first image I printed was of my son on the beach and it knocked my socks off. The second image I printed was from a Canon Raw file from a Canon XTi SLR. It was a church interior and the printer did a fantastic job rendering the wood tones. It has totally exceeded my expectations, although I can't speak to the volume of ink used as I have printed only about a dozen images.

I would also mention that although this can be used as an all purpose printer, I use it only for photography. I use an old HP for documents and my thinking is that I would rather save the inks for photos. That might have something to do with the ink usage but I'm no expert.

I DO know about photo quality however, and I whole heartedly recommend this printer. My experience has been great.
