This printer has met all of my needs. I just love it. Although I don't print a lot of pictures, I am printing recipe cards with a photo on the reverse, using glossy photo paper with a matte back (recipe on the matte side, pnoto on the glossy) Both the text and the photo are outstanding. I love the way that the paper can feed either from the rear (so it doesn't have to roll around a platen (or whatever it is called), and it has a large paper tray in the front, out of sight. I can "close up" the printer when not in use, protecting it from dust. And, it prints on both sides (duplex). That's a wonderful step up for me and it works very well. I also love the way it handles odd-sized envelopes and cards. It's one great printer for the money. I haven't discovered any "cons" yet. I have been able to print (and print well) everything I have thrown at it so far. I did a lot of research before settling on this printer, and I am not disappointed with my choice.Customer Review: does what is is supposed to

We have been happy with our IP4300 at home so when the time came, we got each of our daughters an ip4500 for general purpose desktop printing for college. I like the front paper tray and flat top so it can be put on a shelf with only front access and stuff can be stacked on top. This makes a nice footprint when you only have limited space. It is very reliable as I don't think we have ever needed to manually realign the heads or clean the print nozzles (like our previous printer) since we got them. I like the 5 separate ink tanks because I feel I'm not wasting as much ink that way. It is easy to produce excellent photographs and we do that a lot. I'm not a fan of the all-in-one combo printers so I still think this would be my first choice (or maybe the ip4600 when it is available) if I would need a new desktop printer today. The only nit I have is the power switch isn't quite as "positive" as on the ip4300 but its no big deal.Customer Review: Just what I expected

I got this to replace my Canon I850 which became junk after I started getting the messages about my surplus ink tank being full. However, that printer had performed flawlessly and had bailed me out of my own mistakes time after time. Quality was always excellent.
So, although I did not like the planned obsolescence feature, I went with another Canon. I need high quality photos, as I do the photography for various Senior stage productions. (Boy, are they picky.) I did not need a fax machine or a copier. Just high-quality photos.
I have just had this for a couple of months, but the installation was a snap on an XP with no service packs or updates. The quality again is excellent, and I am very happy with this printer. I haven't had enough experience yet to know about the ink usage, but I wasn't looking for "cheap," just "quality." So far, no complaints.

This is an outstanding printer. Switched over from a color laser that was died and have not been disappointed. Setup was easy and fast. Printer performs as advertised. Auto duplexing lets you print on both sides of a sheet of paper, saving trees and money. Photo quality is phenomenal. Easily equals or beats any commercial printing service for standard prints.
We had an issue where the printer kept jamming, and needed warranty service. The support we got from Canon was excellent. Called on the phone, zero wait to reach an English speaking representative. The replaced my printer with no trouble at all. I was up and running again in two days. The support representatives know their products, and are easy to communicate with.
Overall a great printer from a company that will stand by you and help you out if you get into trouble.

I bought this to replace my Canon i950 that refused to print in anything but black an yellow. The iP4500 has a wide swath high speed black print head and regular heads for Black C, M, and Y. I haven't done any high res photo printing yet to see how it compares to the i950 but I'm sure it will be fine, even with out the photo Cyan and photo magenta. It's really fast when it's printing, although with my 6 year old computer it sometimes takes 2 minutes to process the data before printing. The i950 never had this problem. It does duplex (both sides automatically) printing which will save paper. It has two paper trays, one in the back and one on the bottom, so I can use two different types of paper at the push of a button. Generic Ink cartridges are only a buck fifty each at mega toners dot com. That's a big reason to go with Canon. I would buy again.
