Other reviewers have covered the essentials of this unit. So far my personal experience matches the others regarding speed and print quality. Interesting features that weren't mentioned elsewhere include built-in image enhancement, pigment-based black ink for text printing, auto-power-off, and auto-power-on when a print job is started.
A disappointment for USA users is this: although European versions of this printer include a CD tray and can print directly onto CD/DVD's, as confirmed by Canon tech support, a legal dispute in the US led Canon to disable (but not remove) this feature. For the adventurous, instructions for re-enabling the feature and obtaining the CD tray can be found on the Internet.

I love this printer. After buying cheap printers that don't last and caused me more problems fixing them all the time,how frustrating, I paid a little more money but now I have a printer that works without me having to fix it all the time. You get plenty of help and instructions on your computer and the plus is that it prints photos also.
It was so easy to go online and see which printer to pick out. In the store you get no information or limited information to compare printers and prices. I don't know anything about printers but the process on buying on line is so much easer and the ship it to you so fast. I got my printer within 3 days of ordering it with not shipping charge. Thanks Amazon.

This is my second Canon printer. I had a Canon I900D which was a great printer but alas it was very slow. The IP4500 has two paper sources, one for copy paper and one for photo paper. This is a great plus. All you have to do to change sources is press 1 button. I owned two other printers that had a LCD screen and card readers, butI never used either one. I printed out several photo's that were printed at my local Sam's Club and compared them with the same that I printed on the IP4500. They were equally as good maybe even a bit better. Bottom line if you are looking for a good photo printer and don't want a copier or a fax you can't go wrong with the Canon IP4500.Customer Review: Good color printer

I ordered this Canon Pixma printer based on the price, printing capabilities, and 5 separate colored ink cartridges(2 for black and 3 for the basic cyan, magenta and yellow). Our previous Canon bubblejet printer was slow to print, but printed very high quality. This printer is much faster than that older one, and does not disappoint in terms of quality. I printed a photo on regular typing paper and got a very high quality image with colors that matched those on my computer monitor. It takes some time to "warm up" each time this printer is first powered on, but it has a nice energy saving feature once it's ready to go. We have been very pleased with our purchase of this printer. Our needs did not include fax/copier capabilities, but did include complex booklet, front/back, and other types of varied printing, all of which it has done extremely well and fast for a basic home printer. I have not printed yet using photo paper, but have printed on standard letter-size card stock and have been thrilled. We like not having an all-in-one ink cartridge, since our printing tends to concentrate in certain colors. I recommend this printer highly for the user that needs to print quality documents at home but does not need/want fax and/or copier capabilities.
