Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot A720IS 8MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized ZoomCustomer Review: Just perfect!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this camera after a long time (about a month)of reading comparisons and reviews both from owners and specialized sites, now that i've used it i know i've made a great choice. I love photography but never had a camera that could help me to become an amateur, now i can. this camera does not only provide great shots with preset modes (about 10) but also you can aproach to amateur photography overriding the camera in the manual mode, where you can control exposure (shutter speed and aperture, iso), white balance, focus, etc. zoom is amazing, battery life also (with ni-mh). it takes good shots in low light conditions without flash (thats great in churches and some museums)in manual mode. the cons i read were not a big deal to me except maybe the lag between shots (about 5 secs) with flash, but if you turn it off that's not a problem. i've taken arround 500 shots and nly needed flash in very few ones (20) it's not that bulky, it fits in your pocket. video quality is not superb, but you're not buying a video camera. the relation price quality is the best you can get.
if you want neat pictures with a point and camera, but also want an amateur camera, this is the one for you, go for it, worth the price buck by buck
Customer Review: Great camera, great dealer! Summary: 5 Stars
This Canon camera (Powershot A720IS) is just wonderful. In fact it's my 5th Canon digital camera! (This one was a gift. All the old ones are still working fine, in fact and have become gifts for others as I update my own camera with the newest and greatest features.) It has great optics, controls that go from point and shoot to semi-pro, the batteries are cheap and easy to replace (AA) and you can use alkaline batteries in a pinch. And its ergonomic... very easy to hold. It's a tough little camera too. I have dropped my previous edition of this camera (A620) a couple of times onto concrete and it didn't hurt it a bit. I've been so impressed with my Canon cameras that I have since purchased a Canon printer and scanner... the first of 3 scanners that actually works! I find their technical support to be far better than that of other companies. On the one and only time I ever needed technical support I got an answer to my question from a real human being who solved my problem... no being put on hold. I've been so pleased with Canon in fact that I can hardly imagine buying a camera from another company. It would have to be 1/3 less money for the same features for me to even give another camera a second look.
Customer Review: Best compact digital for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I have been a long time photographer. I am fussy about image quality and to me that includes the sharpness of the image, the exposure/meter accuracy and the quality of the color. This camera really delivers in all of those areas. It's no wonder that Canon point and shoots overall are good performers because their image processing is excellent.
It has a great set of manual features that are easy to navigate. If you appreciate great quality images and don't want to lug around an SLR this is a great choice. The video quality is good as long as you don't use the zoom lens. That works fine for me in a pinch.
The only two things that are missing are a wider lens - I would have preferred 28mm and almost went with the Lumix for that reason alone. Also, the cycle time on the flash could be faster - but that's no big deal.
The "kids and pets" special mode really works and eliminates a lot of the shutter lag that is a problem with digital cameras. So, that's a big plus.
All in all - it's a winner and I would not hesitate to purchase even at the list price. I got mine from OneCall here on Amazon and they shipped it very fast.

Cons:

I bought this Canon A720 (new product from September) right after Thanksgiving and put it to use immediately. The finishes are superb. The PowerShot A720IS produces quality pictures under good lighting. Canon's lenses have always been strong and this one is no different. The 6x optical zoom with the face recognition means that you can zoom in and take a nice shot of someone's face from far away. It's pretty cool.
The 2.5 inch screen is BIG which is great for looking at your pictures.
Full manual, aperture priority, and shutter priority makes this camera fun to play around with.
The macro function is also great for taking closeups, the quality image is fantastic.
Customer Review: Great deal... Summary: 5 Stars
I got this camera about a month ago. This is one is terrific. I bought this to replace my old Nikon coolpix 995 which I have already 6 years.
Here I list good part of this product.
1. Good price.
2. Smart face detection feature.
3. A free 2GB SD card with purchase -- this saves me $15.
4. Digital III chip handles picture/video very quick.
5. more than 20 different languages included in Camera, especially Asian languages ( Chinese, Japanese and Korean)
6. I don't have to buy extra Li batteries. Two AA batteries are very convenient.
7. Pretty light, just simply put into any of my pocket to carry on.
8. 6X optical is fascinating for me, though 12x would be better, but price is about 50% more than this one.
9. AF and AE lock are unique features for Canon's Camera.
DSLR is expensive and may not be so useful for everyone.
Basic digital cameras have many limitations though are cheap.
I think the price of Canon A720IS is between DSLR and other basic digital cameras. And its function is closer to DSLR.
