Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot A720IS 8MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized ZoomCustomer Review: It makes a novice feel like a professional!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I first had access to this camera from my dad. I borrowed his to take pics of my daughter at her kindergarten graduation. I was amazed!!! The coolest feature is that you can adjust your pictures using the software provided if a picture is too dark or too bright.
I purchased my own just after Christmas and I've been trying out all the features. I was amazed at the different shooting options available!!!! There're options for portrait, kids and pets, aquarium, fireworks, foliage, landscape.... the list goes on and on. There's also the image stabilization feature which is important if you're taking pics of kids and pets. The video feature is also great!!!
The camera's really easy to use and the instructions are pretty clear. You may want to purchase a larger memory card than the one provided; I purchased a 2gb with mine.
For average person who just wants to take good pictures this is a great camera. In fact, anyone who's purchasing a camera for the first time should invest in this one.
Customer Review: Terrific product Summary: 5 Stars
This camera is small enough to put in a pocket and simple enough to yield great pictures with no fuss whatsoever. It compares favorably to other, higher end cameras I've owned over the last few years, that were much bigger and more complicated. While it's a little too bulky for a pocket when in the Canon case I bought separately, it slips in easily without the case.
The only downsides are:
1) Optical viewfinder does not adequately reflect the actual shot, and it gives a view that is much smaller than the actual picture, which means the screen must still be used for adequate framing of a shot (which of course means that shots taken using the viewfinder will need after the fact editing), and
2) The screen is quite dark at night, impossible to use to frame shots, and therefore one has to rely on the optical viewfinder.
These limitations were disappointments, but the overall quality of the pictures and ease of use, combined with the size, make this a 5 star product nonetheless.
Customer Review: Mini Canon G9 Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the chance to own the A710 before the A720. I returned the A710 as I learned the difference would be the movie ability. The DIGIC III has a lot more power. Longer continuous recording time, faster photos and a higher resolution. Also the ISO 400 is more useable. One important factor is that it uses AA batteries. I travel a lot and if for some reason I can't use my recharger or I hadn't had a chance to recharge I can always buy some AA Alkalis and continue. There is a trade-off in size, but then with all the Manual controls and priority settings this is an extremely versatile camera. It becomes even more versatile with the lens conversion adapter which will allow me to use lens filters such as a UV and Polarizing Filter as well as the telephoto lens doubler and the wide angle increaser. Not quite pocketable unless you wear baggy pants but for my travels it's been useful in every situation. It even has an underwater setting but you'd need to buy the housing. I haven't gone there, yet.
Customer Review: My best camera EVER !!! Summary: 5 Stars
I researched a lot before deciding for this camera. I got it with sandisk 2gb extreme III and the case from Canon. This is my first Canon camera (I own a Nikon coolpix 2100, an also excellent camera) and this camera excedeed my highest expectations. I knew I was goin to get good quality pictures, but what I got is near-SLR quality. The pictures are fantastic. Sharp, well illuminated, great colors, low noise. Even with ISO 800, the noise is tolerable. I tooke some pics at a Benedictian Monastery last week at varius settings and the outcome was amazing. The interior is extremely dark, so it was a good test. The panoramic mode rocks, the video is aussum, Night pics are great. The IS works like a charm. I could get decent pics at 1 second exposure time. In one week I got used to the menus and now it is almost intuitive.
If anyone is in doubt, don't hesitate, this is an excellent camera. It is not a tiny one, but the quality of the pics compensate by far.
Customer Review: Have been pleased Summary: 5 Stars
I have only used this camera a few times since I opened it at Christmas but I owned the earlier version of it for several year and have been very pleased with the picture quality and flexibility. So far this model seems to have all the same flexibility and picture quality but at a higher resulution and more powerful zoom. It meets my exacting needs on a features, power, quality, and price. My old one (model A520) was dropped, smashed, used in waterfall and ocean mist, used in dusty and sandy conditions, used on extensive backpacking trips, used at high elevations in below freezing conditions and the thing just would not die. I ended up giving it to my daughter in order to justify getting the newer version of the same model with higher resulution and more powerful zoom. I love using AA batteries. They are much more convenient than the propreitary and expensive rechargeble options. Where I got they don't have outlets to recharge my batteries.
