Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot A720IS 8MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized ZoomCustomer Review: The perfect camera for serious amateurs Summary: 5 Stars
This is a superb camera for people who want great shots of their kids, travels, etc., but don't want to deal with the size and expense of an SLR. The antishake and face recognition features work great, resulting in very few blurry or out-of-focus shots. The 6:1 zoom, combined with the antishake feature, lets you get great shots at distance, and the high resolution enabled me to get a decent cropped image of a distant toucan in the Amazon rainforest! (OK, it wasn't *that* distant; I was standing in the Amazon when I shot it, not in Seattle :) ).
My only complaint is that, because the camera uses just 2 AA batteries, battery life isn't great and time between flash pictures is long. You'll want top-quality (2900 mAh as of this writing) rechargeable batteries.
Customer Review: A camera for everyone Summary: 5 Stars
This camera travels everywhere with me. I have bigger and better, but they are no good if they are at home when the shot comes up. This camera uses AA batteries, is small enough to go in a purse, has a great (6x)optical zoom range, and captures wonderful quality images. Not to mention that it has been a very durable camera. It is not the smallest, but it works for me. I appreciate a camera that I can get a hold of. It also has a number of adjustments that allow artistic expression or tweeks to photographic preferences as well as a dependable fully auto point and shoot.
The A590is does just as well but has 3x optical zoom and is slightly smaller. Either one does a great job for the photographer that wants to record fun images of thier life without a lot of fuss.
Customer Review: A720 vs A570 vs SX100 Summary: 5 Stars
After exhaustively comparing the reviews, sample photos, features, costs and side by side comparison the A720 came out on top. It feels much more rugged than the A570, it has an 8 MP sensor, and the 6X optical zoom. It just feels solid when your holding it. While I liked the look and feel of the SX100 the sample photos on dpreview and flickr were not impressive and neither were the reviews. As for the flash delay for my camera it was only 2-3 seconds. People who say it takes 10 seconds are exaggerating unless they have really low batteries. The photos I have taken so far are awesome! I have taken numerous indoor and outdoor shots and the clarity / colors are perfect from edge to edge. Having owned 4 previous point and shoot cameras this is by far the best.
Customer Review: Fantastic pictures with plenty of features... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my wife for Christmas. She knows nothing about photography and I wanted to get her an easy to use camera, but with enough manual settings so she can learn a little more and be able to take control of the shot. This camera is the perfect blend of "auto" and "manual." The pictures she took Christmas day are outstanding. She just turned it to Auto and let the camera do the rest. It's small enough to take with you and it has a decent optical zoom as well. The pictures are nicer than what I take with my Nikon CoolPix4600 and the reload time is so much faster with this Canon. With my Nikon you have to wait an eternity to take your next picture.
This camera was also priced right. Pop in a 2 gig sd card and you're ready to go!
Customer Review: This camera rocks! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved my Canon advanced point and shoot camera! This is my first digital camera purchase and I'm very satisfied. It has a lot of great features. The price was right. I'm learning more about its capabilities every day. The menu features are clear and concise, very well thought out for beginners. I'm now the official photographer for all of my family's get-togethers. The flash is compact but strong. The pre-set film settings for auto, night portrait, kids and pets, snow, fireworks are great! Each has it's own advantages. I'm still experimenting with the macro lens setting for still life shots. They put a lot of bang for the buck in this camera. I recommend this for beginners to intermediate photographers. You will not be dissapointed.
