Customer Review: Best compact waterproof camera on the market!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera for a cruise I went on in mid September. Before buying, I spent about six months learning as much as I could about the pros and cons of the best compact waterproof cameras on the market (including the Panasonic TS1 and Olympus 8000) before deciding on this one--and I am more than pleased that I did! However, I had the luxury of not only reading other people's experience with the cameras and various comparison reviews out there, but also some first hand knowledge since my neighbor has had the Olympus 8000 for several months, and the ability to play around with the TS1 and D10 side by side at Fry's Electronics.
During our cruse, we used the camera from the tops of Myan ruins in the middle of the jungle, to the shallow sea floor along the reefs surrounding Roatan, Cozumel and Grand Cayman. The ease of use of this camera is second to none--if you're going underwater, select underwater mode; if you're taking pictures of flowers and such, select foliage mode; if youre taking pictures of people on the beach, select beach mode...etc. The color accuracy, especially concerning colors underwater and plantlife is GREAT--and not just for a compact camera, I mean PERIOD! Blues are really blue and greens are really green--very vibrant, saturated colors--not washed out like I'm used to seeing with all the other underwater cameras I have used. The only real drawback is the shape--it's not exactly a throw-in-your-pocket-and-go camera, a bit bulkier than most compacts, but it's shape actually helps underwater and in wet conditions.
Oh, and battery life really isn't an issue, Consumer Reports says it only has a 220 shot battery life, but I can attest that it'll last closer to 400, as long as you don't have the LCD screen on the whole time.

Best camera I have owned so far!

Customer Review: Very Pleased
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera because I live in Palau where there is beautiful snorkeling. I wanted a camera that did well on land as well as underwater, and I didn't want to deal with an underwater housing. I looked at a lot of other cameras before deciding that this one seemed worth the price. I have not been disappointed.
Some reviewers complained that it was a little slow and that it didn't shoot in RAW. It's important to remember that this is a point and shoot. If you are wanting the quality of an SLR for underwater, be prepared to spend a LOT more money for an SLR housing. For a point and shoot, this is an excellent camera, both underwater and on land. My husband and I both have Canon SLRs and were very impressed with the clarity of our underwater shots with this camera.
It is a little bulkier than I was wanting, but it also feels very sturdy. I really feel that I can take it anywhere without worrying about it. It has fallen off a table, and passed the shock proof test. There is no lens cover, but the lens is protected and does not scratch.
The battery life is nothing to brag about. I would recommend a spare battery, as well as a float strap if you plan to have it anywhere near deep water.
Overall, I have been pleased with this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking for good land and water shots.
UPDATE: Having now used this camera for several months, I still love it, but have one word of advice if you take it in salt water: rinse it very well, and be sure to remove the strap to rinse out the corner where it screws in. The salt builds up underneath it, and mine had started to corrode to the point where I almost couldn't remove the strap.

Customer Review: Best "Waterproof" Camera so far.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned a few other waterproof cameras in the past and have been disappointed with the picture quality. Being a Canon SLR user for years I was excited to hear that they were coming out with their own "rugged" camera. I picked the D-10 up earlier this year for a trip to Hawaii with the hopes that the reviews were correct and the picture quality was decent. I have to say I was VERY impressed with this camera. I had really only intended to use it snorkeling or kayaking but it was so easy to use and the picture quality was so impressive I ended up using it as my main camera. I used it in every condition; indoors, outdoors, night, day, beach, jungle, underwater and every time it performed perfectly. I was probable most impressed with the underwater capabilities. I have never been a fan of vacation videos but being able to switch over to take a video of a turtle swimming by and then right back to stills without leaving the water was VERRY cool! I probably used it underwater 5 or 6 times during my stay and I never had a problems with leaks, and truth be told I was not that diligent about cleaning all the seals after each use.
Ok, a couple of minor gripes. As other reviews have mentioned the battery life is very short. I always carry spares which was a good thing, I usually went through 2 in a day. Not that big a deal but if you are looking to purchase this camera I would Definitely recommend a spare. My second minor gripe is the shape. I know the bulging lens is probably integral to the rugged capabilities, but it makes it tough to put in a pocket. Also I am hoping the next gen of this camera has HD video, but who knows what that would do to the battery life!

Customer Review: D10 is king for portable underwater digital camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a waterproof camera to take on my Hawaii vacation and originally stumbled on the Fuji Z33WPFujifilm FinePix Z33WP 10 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Black), the price was right but the reviews I was reading on the photo sites were not very good. I wanted a camera that can be used in the water AND on dry land and still produce good pictures! After more online research I decided to order the D10, I have had numerous other canon powershot cams so I was familiar with the menus and layout.

The camera is slightly bulkier than your standard powershot camera and not as easy to pocket. I had no problem with size as long as I was wearing shorts or pants that were not jeans. You do need to be careful since the lens and back screen are always exposed so I used my old A70 case to transport my D10. Battery life was good, we used the D10 at the pool, ocean, snorkeling and never killed a battery. The camera buttons were easy to use underwater while snorkeling. The button layout is slightly different than other powershot cams but you get used to it really quick! The video and photo came out very, you can even use the flash underwater and it provides some decent detail on close subjects like coral.

The wrist strap that comes with this camera is sturdy and has an adjuster knob so you can tighten so it wont fall off!! Great feature that no longer comes on the powershot cams!

Overall - the D10 was almost double the $$ over the Fuji but after this trip i was pleased i spent the extra money on it!

Customer Review: GREAT CAMERA!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not a photographer... I'm a simple guy who likes to have good pictures, either at work or at fun time. So the waterproof feature is great, I can take shots with rain, and that's priceless! With shock proof I don't need to worry about carrying the camera while riding a bike, or putting the camera in a backpack with other "not so fragile" stuff. Since i love going to the beach, the camera does resist very well, it's great the fact of not worrying about being careful.

About sizing, I had this doubt before purchasing... but i had this good surprise as I saw the camera fits well in the pocket of my jeans... it's smaller then a wallet, but if you have to seat down, the volume may annoy a bit... if it goes as a comparasion, it's like if you put 3 cheap cell phones in your pocket.

About shoting, well, I also have a Sony H-9, wich in theory would be a much better camera... but the pictures I took with Canon D-10 are WAY THAT good!... the image stabilizer is a good helpful feature (ordinary for today's cameras), face detection works ok; the viewing display is huge; the color contrasts are very good.

I like quality in things I do and have in life, I hate tacky products. Canon D-10 is certainly a good product.

I don't know any other waterproof camera to make a comparasion. I chose this one because of the comments and videos I found on youtube. (I belive it has batter image quality then the others).

If yoú're a regular user, like I am, the fact of not having to worry with crash/dirt, makes Canon D10 your best choice on the market.
