Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver)Customer Review: The perfect choice Summary: 5 Stars
I chose this camera after much research on the internet (Amazon & professional review sites) and being as I am not a professional photographer many of the comments really didnt apply to me. I needed a camera that WORKS, right out of the box, that doesnt require the user to have a PHD in photography (if there is such a thing) to understand the manual and will give me great shots of my kids, my pets, my days at the beach, my life!! Well I believe I've found it.
The camera looks great, performs & responds well and does just what I need it to which is take great pictures with easy transfer to my PC. Both Basic & Advanced Manuals are included in the box, along with cables and a 32mb card.
If you were like me on the never ending & ever more confusing search for "the perfect camera" take my advice & just click "add to cart" - I'm sure you wont regret it.
Customer Review: More than meets the eye Summary: 5 Stars
It's really a wonderful pocket size camera and a welcome improvement over my old Powershot S400 (which is still working fine). It performs great in the most difficult situations for an amateur photographer: low light, extremely bright or dark surroundings of main subjects, indoor close ups (flash off, please). And the optical view finder comes in handy when the reflection on the large LCD is too strong. Sure it's not perfect: a lot of image noise with high ISO settings (keep them under 400), menus that close too quickly and very interesting features hidden in the functions, but after the first 1000 pictures you'll get used to them. And don't spend too much time reading the manual (someone ought to write a manual on how to read Canon manuals). Go out and take those beautiful pictures: the camera is very simple, easy to handle and produces excellent images. It's all up to you.
Customer Review: a little better than the SD600 Summary: 5 Stars
I was very satisfied with the SD600 a friend owns, and I decided to buy the SD1000 since it had more megapixels and because, on sale, it was cheaper than the SD600. I haven't really gotten a chance to use it, but I really liked the SD600 and this is just an improvement based off of that. SD1000 is a tiny bit (like a split sec) faster than the SD600 when it comes to turning on/off which is important for those of us that don't want to miss a picture chance waiting for the camera to load. I did however take a few pictures in a dark area and a few in the sun. The pictures are a little clearer, and the colors are brighter and better with the SD1000. The box-like shape of it makes it look a little smaller than the SD600, but it is only a tiny bit thinner. Overall, if $50 is too much more to pay for pictures that are a little clearer with better colors, I would go with the SD600.
Customer Review: Great Camera @ a Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great camera...and Amazon offered this at a better price than [...](my other favourite shop). This is my first digital camera...going from a film SLR (an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, with ALL the various lenses). I love how this is small and inconspicuous (unlike the SLR). However, the one problem w/this is that I can't change the ISO to fine for every shot. Auto-everything has its advantages, but....
In the end, this is a great, affordable camera that takes very sharp pics for its size. This camera is the same size as my business card! And I love the ease with which I can transfer the images to my laptop. It takes great movies w/sound too. I replaced the 32 mb memory with a 1 gig card. However, since I've now learned that it's compatible w/a 2 gig card, I'd recommend that instead (which can also be purchased quite inexpensively from Amazon).
Customer Review: Excellent travel camera Summary: 5 Stars
I initially bought the Panasonic FX-30 after wanting to try something different. I have owned several Elph's and have experience with medium format camera down to the 5D, D80, and D40. I don't know what I was thinking; the FX-30 was difficult to use, hard to see, and the quality was like a camera phone. I took it back the next day and got the SD1000. It takes amazing sharp, contrasty photos and is super easy, light and pocketable. Naturally, you will have blown out highlights from time to time; it is a tiny P&S. But we are talking a minor annoyance when it takes such amazing photos. You want to blow up your photos bigger than 11x18? Take your DSLR. You want to take fun photos, have a good vacation or night out without worry about breaking you $1000+ baby, leave the DSLR home and take the SD1000. Everyone should have one. The only P&S I would recommend for the price.
