Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver)Customer Review: Wow, great pictures!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am absolutely impressed with this camera. It takes amazing pictures in low light. (I tried it in my living room, at night, with just one lamp on.) It is very simple to use and the pictures I have taken using the zoom are very clear, it looks like you are a lot closer. This camera is 100X better than the Kodak Easyshare I had previously. The Kodak was 7 MP and cost a little more. I only had it about 6 months and I was upset when it was ruined by moisture in my suitcase, but now I am happy. I see what I was missing! This camera is a great buy at this price, especially with the rechargeable battery and memory card included. It is very light and small but is still easy to use and hang on to. The red eye correction turns out great also. It doesn't look like people have wierd black eyeballs. Did I mention I am very impressed with this camera?
Customer Review: Everything I expected Summary: 5 Stars
This is only the 2nd Digital camera I have bought. The first one was one of the first models HP put out. Digital cameras have come a long way since then, and this one is exactly what I wanted. It is easy to use, has some nice advanced features, a very good battery life, and with a 2 GB memory card it can hold over 2,000 pictures.
I thought about a larger camera with more features, but after seeing what this little gem will do I am fully satisfied. I bought a SanDisc card reader and an Epson PictureMate printer (for less than $100 total cost) and now I can snap a picture, load it on my computer, and print a copy in a couple of minutes. The camera will fit easily into a shirt pocket or carried in a belt holder so it always handy and ready. The quality of the pictures from this camera is flat out wonderful.
Customer Review: Great little camera Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this camera to replace a larger, clunkier one I had before going on a trip to Europe. I wanted to have something compact and easy to carry discreetly in my pocket without looking too much like a tourist. This camera has been perfect for that, and so much more. It takes beautiful, crisp, colorful pictures, and is great for portraits as well as scenic shots. It doesn't give a lot of user-control over shutter speed or aperture, and so really isn't for professional photos, but it does the job well.
The downsides: surface scratches easily, doesn't come with a protective case (although Virgin MegaStore carries one perfect for it), and the flash setting must be re-set each time after camera is turned off, which is slightly annoying.
A great camera for the price though. Very satisfied, indeed!
Customer Review: Awesome, Fast Camera Summary: 5 Stars
This camera is very fast and easy to use. Build seems to be of high quality. It comes with a plug-in battery charger, which means that you don't have to charge the battery inside the camera via USB (great if you have a spare battery). Haven't had a chance to test all of the different options and settings, but after two days everything looks great.
Only con: Shipping and delivery were slow from Amazon. Despite the fact the the camera was listed as being in stock and shipping within 24 hours, it took several days to ship. The item shipped from Fresno, CA (on DHL) and was routed to my house in Tucson, AZ via Sacramento, Ohio, Colorado, and Phoenix. From there it was transferred to USPS in Tucson, which delayed it an additional day.
Great camera, but you're better off ordering from Newegg.com.
Customer Review: Also have a Sony A100 SLR and this Baby Rocks! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the SD1000 as a camera to have that "goes everywhere", as we all know that nice high end DSLRs like my Sony Alpha end up not going everywhere due to their size.
I've been TOTALLY impressed with the speed, ease of use and just overall enjoyment of using my new SD1000. I find the pictures to be awesome and it's so much more responsive and snappy than the new Sony T100 that I was also considering.
No it's not 8 megapixels like the Sony and no it doesn't have 5x zoom like the Sony, but my personal opinion is that anything over about 6 megapixels and 3x zoom on a point and shoot camera is a waste of time and they are really just trying to suck people in with numbers that don't mean anything for this type of camera.
Go buy the SD1000. You'll love it!
