Great product. It offers many great features for the price. To give you prespective I am still in school so I needed something within my price range and great for point and shoot pictures. This camera is perfect for that- turns on and ready for next picture quickly. Takes great pictures- not grainy or off colored. It is also small enough to fir in my pocket or small purse. (I keep it in a small for fitting case to protect the back screen which broke on my last camera in my purse) I did add a bigger memory chip which was helpful for a recent trip with friends and I often forget to delete photos after loaded to my computer (However, you can find those cheap online or look for sales at stores like Circuit City or Best Buy). Also, I used the video feature for a class project. I was able to film many small videos (about 10 minutes total along with about 150-200 picture on the memory card) with great quality picture and sound. The only thing I have not figured out how to do is make the actual camera's speaker turn up but it sounds perfectly clear on my computer. Lastly, I did not have to download any special software to use the pictures. I put the memory card into my reader and just went on my way. I am super excited to travel around europe with this camera. Highly suggest this camera!
Customer Review: Terrific Buy! Summary: 5 Stars
After reading review after review, I decided on the canon sd1000 and couldn't be happier! I purchased this camera about 5 months ago and have gotten rave reviews on all my pictures. I've taken lots of different shots - indoor, outdoor, action, close up, b&w, sepia - and I love the neat features this little camera has. The digital macro feature is awesome - works great. Also love the mode where you can take the entire photo in b&w and select only one color to show up in color. Even though this same effect can probably be created using software, it's cool to see it right there on your camera. (especially when you show the picture to those around you, they'll be in awe!) The display is large and pretty clear, although i have noticed that the displayed picture when taken in low-light appears a little grainy, but the actual photo, once it's on the computer, appears fine.
I also like the fact that you can turn the camera sideways when viewing your photos and the camera will automatically turn the photo, so you it's easier to view those vertical ones.
I've had a lot of fun with this camera and it's a great size to throw in your purse or pocket. I actually didn't buy a camera case to store it, I bought a little black changepurse and it fits great. I bought it on sale for $225, but it's down to around $180. It's an absolute STEAL from some stores in their black friday ads for only $150.
In any case, it's a great point & shoot camera for the money, with a few bonus features as well.
Customer Review: Super SD1000 Summary: 5 Stars
I did all sorts of research on the SD600. I had made up my mind that the SD600 was the camera for me. The SD1000 is the newer kid on the block and therefore did not have many reviews. And that is why I am here today. The SD1000 is the newest version of the SD600 with a few additions. Those few additions make this camera AWESOME. I love the ISO choices. I was zooming on my local Calif. freeways at around 80mph and decided to take a few shots of passing signs out my passenger window. At the high speed the ISO caught such great detail that I could clearly read the sign later at home. That means that despite the small size the camera filtered out the shake of my hand, the shake from the road, and compensated for the fast movement. The color options are very much the same as other Canon Powershot models. MACRO is so much fun to play with on this camera. The button layout is easy to figure out. Lighting options like White balance are a button push away. With the Face Detection option on you are sure to get a great photo of the family. I have been playing with it none stop for over a week. Get at least a gig for memory. The only downside that I have found, and it is a minor one, is that when the battery warning comes on it means that you have 1-2 more pics and then it shuts off. I ordered another battery ahead of time and it was worth it. The batteries charge in about 30-40mins. This is a great camera. If you are thinking about the SD600 step up and get the SD1000. You will not be disappointed with it.
Customer Review: Great little camera Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, of course this camera doesn't do everything, no, it doesn't have wide angle, and yes, it does have shutter lag which any point and shoot has, even the expensive ones, to placate some constant complainers here. The only cameras that do not have lag are expensive slrs. I own this camera. I own quite a few cameras and I'll tell you, this is one of the best cameras I've ever used. It is very fast, you can flip it on and its ready to snap a picture in about a half second. The final image quality is fantastic. I'll tell you, I spent 2 months in Italy this summer and this camera was fun, tiny and light, and I ignored my expensive Nikon DSLR D40x, because of the great shots coming out of this little beauty. The camera is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and the amount of power they pack into this thing is amazing. I highly recommend this camera, especially at the current price of about $175. The proprietary battery is a godsend, yes it does cost $20 for an extra one(complainers), but it lasts all day with constant use, and can be recharged forever. The most artful photos that I came home from Italy with, were from this camera, not the NIkon. The fact is, the smaller and lighter it is, the more likely you are to carry it. You don't even notice it in your pocket. If you have the camera, the good shots will appear out of the blue, and there you go, you pull out your little gadget and snap a quick photo, its turned on and off in and put back in your pocket in 5 seconds. I highly recommend this camera.
Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to buy a metallic pink camera for my wife but after reading innumerable reviews on amazon and cnet decided that the leading options (Sony and Casio) just did not cut it. So decided to go for the "popular with the masses" option. Got it from a leading electronics hypermarket at almost the internet price. Got an old case (for the SD600) which I now realise is obsolete (darn shopping assistants) as well as a San Disk Ultra II 2GB card.
So far the camera has been a delight. Initially, I was quite disappointed with the results without a flash in low light areas but after quickly scanning the manual (well written by the way) figured out how to easily adjust the ISO setting to suit the occassion. Was on a flight yesterday and got some amazing scenery shots from the plane. My wife loves it so far - just have to convince her to spend 5 min reading the manual!
MAIN PROS
- Small size and beautiful design (including buttons)
- Excellent picture quality, even in low light
- Easy and fun to use controls with lots of useful settings
MAIN CONS
- Battery/card cover flimsy - seems like it might snap off at any time
- Zoom control lever quite "hard" - i.e. zooming in/out quite fast
- Flash can sometimes be too strong for low light settings
Overall very good buy - but I've only had the camera 1 week so far!
