Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Dark Gray)

Customer Review: THE PERFECT POINT & SHOOT CAMERA!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had bought & sent back two larger canon digital cameras because I was not satisifed with the quality of the indoor photo shots. Too many adjustments necessary. In the meantime, I had passed on buying this camera for myself, but instead bought it as a birthday gift for my 13 yr old niece (in torqouise blue). Upon receipt I took it out of the box to test it out first to make sure it wasn't broken. I WAS INSTANTLY BLOWN AWAY BY BOTH THE 1st AND 2ND INDOOR PICTURES I TOOK! It takes exactly the kind of clear indoor photos that I had been looking for. I simply took it out of the box, charged the battery and started snapping. UNLIKE THE MORE EXPENSIVE CANONS I HAD SENT BACK, I DID NOT HAVE TO MAKE ANY ADJUSMENTS ON THIS ONE TO GET DECENT PICTURES. Cystal clear & bright indoor pictures, even on the LCD. Decent indoor auto flash.

The functions are very simple and easy to understand. It's much slimmer than other digital cameras, more like a cellphone, therefore fitting easy into your pocket. For picture quality and portability, it gets 5 stars from me. This is the kind of pal-camera that you would want ready for a quick trip or a family function. And I love the chargeable battery & battery charger that it comes with. However, you'll have to buy your own memory card because this model does not come with a free one, but who cares? I already had three memory cards, so I just inserted one into the camera before mailing it off to my niece in Michigan (I live in California). Now I'm getting ready to order one of these for myself. 'THIS IS A TRUE "READY CAMERA'

Customer Review: great in lower light situations
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic camera. My husband and I have used this camera for over a year, and many of the newer 12 and 14mp cameras out now (april 2010) just don't compare. We get great crisp, true color photos, even in very low light situations. We rarely use it in any mode other than auto, and it does great for us. Since we have bought this camera we thought it would be nice to upgrade from great to super great. We have not been able to find a camera that even comes close, with the exception of the 14mp panasonic lumix fp2, which is a similar price (original price at the time the cannon was purchased). In all honesty, with the exception of the pixels, the panasonic's not really much better, just different. It's little too vibrant or "happy" in the color area, we prefer the more realistic color of the cannon sd1200. They are both great cameras, but this cannon really holds up well to the new cameras out as of april 2010, in our opinion. We have never gotten a blurry picture, unless the camera shake was totally outrageous. After the first battery charge, you will see the battery life is great. I am actually jealous that my husband uses this cannon camera and i get the new 14mp panasonic we purchased. Absolutely NONE of the newer fujifilm (12mp+) cameras did well, in all the models we tested and ended up returning, they did terrible in low light. Unless something is wrong with your camera, you will be happy with this canon model. Not sure if a more professional photographer will be happy with it or not, but we love it all the way!!!

Customer Review: one great camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Canon SD1200 digital camera for my girlfriend. I own a Nikon D60Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens, and I was planning on buying her a Nikon
P&S camera..to replace the 4MP Nikon she already has. After checking reviews of Nikon P&S cameras, I didn't find any I liked.
Then I researched Canon's line of digital cameras and found the SD1200, I read the reviews and that helped me decide. I took
my girlfriend to Best Buy so she could see the camera, and she immediately liked it. She wanted a small P&S camera which she
could carry in her purse. And she wanted a rechargeable battery, and the eye viewfinder as well. And she wanted at least 10MP.
After further consideration we agreed that the SD1200 fit the bill. I ordered it on thanksgiving day from Amazon (great price $149). And received it 3 days later.
.... when I received the camera I charged the battery and we went and took some photos both indoors and outdoors the camera takes excellent photos that are super sharp...thank you Amazon you guys are the best with the best prices and great customer service....WillieCanon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver)

Customer Review: Excellent compact point and shoot
Summary: 5 Stars

Overall, I think this is a great compact camera and is invaluable for the spontaneous people shots that capture those special moments in life. It won't take pictures worthy of National Geographic (meaning it won't replace a dSLR), but it fills in well when a large camera is just too much equipment to be carrying around.

Pluses:

*Very short power up to shot time
*Pocket friendly
*Solid build, mostly metal body
*Great battery life
*Bright LCD with good resolution
*Sharp images in good lighting/daylight
*Image stabilization
*Easy to use
*Captures vibrant colors
*DIGIC processor picks appropriate settings for most shots (see below)
*No red eye!
*Fast zoom

Minuses:

*No manual controls or scene modes
*Tends to use higher than necessary ISO settings (more grainy pictures, sometimes making them unusable) in low light using Auto Mode (ISO can be set manually in P mode)
*Underpowered flash (common to most compact cameras)
*Paper thin battery compartment cover!

Mostly, the camera suffers from its diminutive size. It doesn't offer much in terms of artistic controls, but does a very good job of making those decisions most of the time. This makes it ideal for the weekend snapshot photographer who wants to take good photos without much more than hitting a shutter button! Great all purpose camera, everyday camera.

Customer Review: The Best Camera We've Ever Had
Summary: 5 Stars

We've previously owned a Canon SD630 and some other named cameras in the past. The SD630 is an awesome camera which never gave us any trouble. It would occasionally flash when it shouldn't causing the picture to be washed out, but it is a great camera.
We purchased the SD1200IS because the initial plan was to give the SD630 to an older family member who isn't always keen on trying something new. But, when this idea was run across my wife, she made it clear to me that she didn't want to get rid of the SD630 because it was sentimental to her.
After using the new SD1200IS, my wife quickly fell in love with it. The camera takes phenomenal pictures every time. Neither of us are photo experts. The camera is set to auto and away we go. The camera makes little noises inside adjusting to the scene and picture you are taking at the time. There is a date stamp you can use which is visible when you take your photo.
Our older Canon had a setting where you could leave it on the review mode and if the power button was accidentally pressed, the lens would not open out. This one does not have that feature. So, if you ever accidentally press the power button, the lens will open out.
Overall we are very happy with our new camera. We have a small child and we love taking pictures with our new camera.
I would recommend this camera to everyone. It is easy to operate and takes great pictures.
