Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Black)Customer Review: just what i expected Summary: 5 Stars
Size: this sucker is small. easy to carry around in your pocket.
Picture quality: I cant complain. Some people write about noisy photos, over saturation, washed out this and that, i just dont see it and honestly i think it makes people feel smart when they write reviews like that. to my eye, the pics look great. i am not a professional photographer so maybe thats the problem. if you are like me and are a regular consumer, i am sure you will be pleased.
HD movies: I was specifically in the market for point and shoot that did video well. let me say, the video in a brightly lit area is fantastic. hooked the camera up to my HD TV via mini hdmi and was amazed that this tiny little guy took such sharp video. in low light, the video can be a little noisy, but that is going to happen with any digital camera. that will even happen with a dedicated video camera, so no complaints from me.
Battery life: battery is great, once again, no complaints.
I think there is a reason that all the top selling camera's on amazon appear to be Canon's. This camera met all my expectations.
Customer Review: THE BEST UNDER $250 Summary: 5 Stars
I bought an SD770 from amazon 3 months ago which is another 5-star. With the recent HD pocket cam craze, I wanted to get in on the action, and bought Kodak Zi6. DISAPPOINTING. Twice the size of this cam. Then bought Vado HD. A little better quality, still not great HD quality. I realized that all the video samples I had seen were played on my PC screen, and not on a HDTV. So, once I plugged the Vado to my HDTV, I was disappointed. But decided to keep it regardless. Very soon, I realized the drawback - I would have to carry two devices, both my SD770 and the Vado HD. Looking for solution - ENTER SD780 IS.
WOW!! The best video quality I have seen so far. This thing is MADE IN JAPAN (like it's older bro SD770) and the build quality makes me think it was manufactured by UFO flying aliens. The black LOOKS SICK!!
Canon must not compress the video as much as Vado, even in HD+ mode. In HD+ mode, Vado shows 2h:12m remaining on 8GB. Canon shows only 44m n 8GB. May be that has something to do with "smoother" quality video.
Overall.. 780IS 720p video OWNS them all - in the compact HD category.
Customer Review: Great camera for the average user Summary: 5 Stars
This is now my second Cannon and I must say I love the line. Unless something goes terribly wrong I'll be sticking with the Cannon line. This takes great pictures and video in such a small package. I haven't yet gone too in depth with all of the features but what I have tried so far has been easy with great results.
This camera is so easy to use right out of the box. I would highly recommend this for the average user.
I decided to upgrade from my previous Cannon as my wife & I just had our first son and I am happy I did. We have been snapping away and getting crystal clear near perfect pictures.
The only drawback to this camera is the battery. Although it does last for a decent amount of time I would recommend either getting a longer lasting battery or purchasing a backup battery. Lucky for us this uses the same battery as our last Cannon so we are all set.
All and all this is a great camera and a great buy! The 4GB memory card Amazon is currently offering free with this was only the icing on the cake making this a must buy!!! Go out and get one for yourself and see the results first hand!!!
Customer Review: Powerful & Tiny Camera Summary: 5 Stars
I love this camera! Great to take everywhere in your pocket or purse. I own a Canon Rebel XSi and purchased the 780is as my everyday point and shoot. I am so glad I made this purchase. Pictures come out crisp and clear. The digital viewfinder/screen and settings are easy to work with.
If you are looking for a camera in the $200-250 range, this is the one for you. The fact that it takes high megapixel photos, hd video and size were my deciding factors (not to mention I own the other Canon and know how high quality their products are). The zoom is only 3x, but with a point and shoot you shouldn't be expecting the world. Even still, the digital zoom doesn't turn out pixulated photos as you may expect.
My only issues with this camera is that the optical viewfinder is a waste of time - I can barely see through it. The second isn't really an issue, but because the camera is so small, the buttons are tiny as well. (I have big hands and adapted quickly.)
Overall, I would say buy this camera and never look back.
Customer Review: Canon PowerShot combined with near garbage amazon shipping Summary: 5 Stars
First things first, amazon.com sucked big time in shipping this order. Within an hour after I ordered, the status was changed to "items shipping soon". That status remained for 8 days and they never shipped camera. Finally after contacting their customer support, it was shipped. Thus, it took more than 2 weeks before I had this one in my hand. From my personal experience with amazon.com for last couple of orders, "free super saver shipping" the status will change to "items shipping soon" within no time after you order so that you can't cancel the order. Than you keep waiting and waiting and you will be really lucky to get your order within 2 weeks. Amazon shipping UUHHHH!!!!!!
About the Camera. Its absolutely great camera. It's a great point-n-shoot camera but has many features of DSLR i.e you can go creative to great extent. HD video from this camera is also really nice. The color, contrast, sharpness, saturation is really good. I highly recommend it anyone looking for simple intelligent point and shoot camera.
