I purchased this camera to replace a Panasonic Lumix DMC FX07A that was lost on a kayaking trip. I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the pictures turned out. The images are crisp and the camera is easy to use. Although slightly larger than my Panasonic, I find the large display and larger optical zoom more than make up for this difference. I am happy to be able to zoom while shooting video, a feature my Lumix did not offer. The lack of view finder, which I'm seeing in some reviews as a negative, is not an issue with me because the large display allows me to get a good visual on the subject, even in sunlight. By far, this is one of Canons best cameras. I have been reluctant to buy a point and shoot cameras because of the bad low light pictures, the shutter lag, and recovery time between shots. This cameras does all of them well. It takes some of the clearest shots of any camera that I have had. I was a little slow at learning all of the features, but practice improved skill. Some might not like the fact that the battery has to be removed to charge, but I had no problem taking lots of pictures without recharge. If you are looking for a great compact camera that takes great pictures, works fully auto, quick recovery between shots, excellent color and detail, this camera is for you.Customer Review: Awesome camera for MOM's!

I have to say going from a larger Nikon 8700 to this hand held is wonderful. As a matter of fact it takes even better pictures than I could have ever hoped for. My 2 year old is constantly on the go, not to mention usually in terrible lighting situations. This camera is amazing and I love the picture quality. I am by no means a professional but as a parent I cannot and will not leave without this camera. Also, the video capability played a large role in purchasing this camera. I am taking really great video's and not missing anything. Plus, I don't have to lug around two different electronics! WOW. I just spent a day shooting photos and videos with my new Canon as well as in evening light, and it is completel blowing me away in quality.
As with previous PowerShots, it's great in representing photos similarly to how my eye saw the image, the 28mm is rocking, and the video quality is fabulous. I just discovered all kinds of fun special effects for video.
Unlike my previous POS, oh I mean P and S, which was a Lumix, this PowerShot lets you zoom while a video is being filmed. That's a great feature.
Get a large capacity memory card and this camera, and enjoy taking beautiful professional quality photographs.

I use the Canon Powershot SD870IS for work and have found it to be excellent and easy to use. The controls are most intuitive and I rarely get an out of focus shot. Changing settings seems particularily easy. A co-worker has the SD800IS which works great as well. I found the large display versus the view finder to be worth it. The best feature is the wide angle lens. If you have even low light conditions, you won't need a flash and yet the pictures (on a computer screen at least) aren't grainy. Battery lasts a long time. Get the canon elph leather camera case. It protects nicely yet keeps the camera compact.
