Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)Customer Review: Perfect, brilliant, 11 out of 10! Summary: 5 Stars
I won't ramble on (there are enough of those reviews and I am not a technical person) so I will just say, from my non technical perspective this is a GREAT camera.
I looked up loads of different makes and models and I probably would've found most ok but this camera takes great photos with good colors. The different modes are useful (although I haven't found a good mode for indoors at night yet).
If you are a technical wiz, ignore this review. If you are looking for a camera to take great point and shoot photos...this is the puppy!
I even bought the underwater casing which is AMAZING....thoroughly recommended.
Enjoy!
Customer Review: Great camera, great price, don't hesitate Summary: 5 Stars
As a professional photographer, picking a point and shoot was a tough decision, and after receiving the SD870IS I was not disappointed! It functions great in low-light focusing situations, the color is awesome, the flash is balanced, the screen is huge, and the menus are easy to navigate.
You're not going to get professional images out of this camera, so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't the camera for you (check out the Powershot G9 for the most "pro" point & shoot). But if you're looking for something to toss in your bag and take with you everywhere to capture memories as they happen, then this is for sure the camera for you!
Customer Review: WOW FACTOR Summary: 5 Stars
WOW! That's what people say when I show them the pictures taken with this camera. I have owned several digital point and shoot cameras (different brands) and this one by far out shines them in photo quality and ease of use. Right out of the box I was able to take the pictures displayed below the product. The colors are bright and vibrant. As an older lady with a bit of hand shake anyway, I was very happy with the image stabilization function. I did not have to use a tripod to take the macro shots. This is a common sense type of camera as well which is great for us non-professionals. Kudos to Canon for making a great little camera!
Customer Review: Meets or Exceeds Expectations Summary: 5 Stars
This camera is at the nexus of portability and image quality. A DSLR would have been fantastic but of course they're quite expensive. saying nothing about their portability. A bridge camera would be a good intermediate step but again, they don't exactly slip into one's pocket. The SD870 is small enough to throw in a pocket (or purse, i'm sure) and takes a quality image. The movie mode has some fun extras (time lapse, color accent) as well. The metal body exudes quality construction and the LCD on the back is nearly gigantic. It's worth the extra money over the SD1000. A fine step before graduating to a bridge camera.
Customer Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this at Ken Rockwell's suggestion. Like he said, I set the camera to Manual, then Vivid. So far the photos I've taken have been really, really nice that even my brother (who already has a Nikon D40 SLR) wants to get the same camera too! I usually take photos without a flas but whenever I need to apply it, I'm quite happy at how far the flash can reach.
I highly recommend this camera, but would suggest that any buyer read through the manual. Don't get me wrong--the camera is very user friendly, but there's nothing like the manual to tell you all the amazing features that packed into this tiny camera!
