Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

Customer Review: great camera, not bad at movies,
Summary: 5 Stars

I really like this camera, the SD870. I got the 4 gig Class 6 memory, and movies are very good, sound is actually perfect as well. I had no idea how well the movies would work. still pics are perfect. I have the A650IS for work, and the smaller, lighter SD870 can do almost everything the bigger one can do. One big advantage for industrial work is the A650 swing-out, rotating LCD screen, but that is not important for home/family use. The speed of both cameras between pictures is great, flash recovery, everything.
PROBLEMS: I am a control freak, so when I plug the camera into the USB port, I expect every functionality of Explorer; not the case. you cannot move pics from your PC to the camera for instance, so get a SD flashcard reader and pull the memory when you want to get your pics and movies. NOTE: class 6 memory will not work w/ older card readers.
last comment- read the rebate info CAREFULLY> I was denied because I was supposed to purchase a camera AND a printer to qualify; that pissed me off, but the camera still works great! JP

Customer Review: Amazing photos from a tiny camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm am a loyal Canon fan and have always stuck to their larger cameras in the past. Although I could appreciate convenience of having a small camera, I felt their small lenses didn't let in enough light to capture the photo perfectly. I currently own a digital SLR Rebel for which I purchased an image stabilized lens as an upgrade. I was so impressed with the quality of my photos with the image stabilized lens, I figured if there is any possible way to get good photos from a small camera lens, an image stabilized lens would be key. This camera is great. The image stabilized lens allows for the lens to stay open for a longer period of time (while minimizing blur from shakiness), thus capturing color and light beautifully. The camera takes beautiful shots. It's weighted nicely and feels good in the hands. As with all Canon's, the buttons are laid out in a clear manner, making it easy to switch around settings. This is a great camera for someone that appreciates photography, but is looking for something small and portable. I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Best Camera Ever!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a Sony Cybershot before buying this camera because the Sony was cheaper. I was disappointed with the Sony and ended up ditching it and buying this one after a coworker of mine bought it and brought it in to work. This was my first Canon so I've never had a camera with the motion sensor before - that is a great feature. It can get really bothersome at times though. Some times it reverts to lanscape and it will take a couple of tries for you to get it back to portrait view. That's honestly the only complaint I have with it. Other than that- I love it. Whenever I take my camera anywhere I get tons of compliments about the LCD screen. I guess I've never noticed it before, but compared to other cameras, the Powershot does have a very bright LCD screen. The picture quality is just as great. My Sony used to take really bad night time pictures. Not the Powershot though. Even the night time pictures on this this is really great. If this camera broke today, I would QUICKLY buy the exact same camera. I'm definitely satisfied.

Customer Review: Truly an excellent little camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this Elph after losing an older generation Elph, and I am even more satisfied than I was with the other one. I find Canon controls to be very intuitive...I have yet to open the Operator's Manual over all the years I have owned Canon cameras. With a little curiosity and intuition, it is very easy to navigate through all of the features with relative ease. Also, you should know that I am far from being a gadget-hound; I'm just not the type of person to sit there and figure out how to make fancy electronics work. So, it says a lot that I can work this camera with its many features so easily and quickly.

I can definitely appreciate all of the new improvements in this model over my older Elph: image stabilization definitely makes a difference, more settings (e.g. beach, aquarium, night shot, etc.), beautiful large screen, and the zoom is great for a camera this size.

I have captured some awesome pictures with this camera, and it is safe to say that I will be a Canon customer for some time.

Customer Review: All I can say about this thing is "WOW"!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, this camera is just incredible. There's nothing I don't like about it. I know there have been a few complaints on the battery, but you can fill a 1GB card on one battery charge. The pictures are like you were actually there, but I will admit that at the higher ISO setting, it can get a little fuzzy, but not too bad. The image stabilizer feature sold me on this model. I was looking at the SD750, but it lacked that feature. I made the right choice. My best advise is for you to go to the closest Best Buy or the Apple Store and try it out for yourself. You will see the true power of this thing. Canon has done it again!

Also, compared to the Sony T200, it fell short, which surprised me because of the Carl Zeiss lens. It does have more zoom, but the picture quality was beyond comparison from the Canon (negatively). The image stabilizer was worthless on the T200 in a slight shaking scenario (which I created in Best Buy). Canon wins the battle with Sony...

All I can say about this thing is "WOW"!!!
