Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)Customer Review: Best Choice Summary: 5 Stars
After reading lot of reviews and analyzing pros and cons and other closely matching specs like 850 A720is , SD series etc.
I just thought of going for the latest though I know it has cost me $50 to $100 more for something which I have yet to figure out.
But so far, I am happy with the choice.
I am proud to carry the camera and with its shiny look and 3" LCD, I have got what I wanted. I used to hate the A series as I had to carry replacement batteries all the time. With this I have yet to charge it and already used few hundred photos.
Its small enough to carry in the pocket and does not hurt like the A series.
It has quality finish and mettalic body and good lens etc etc etc.
I have yet to notice the need for the view finder which everyone uses. I dont use it.
If you are a average camera user and just want to get the things done as best in as easy possible way, just close your eyes and blindly pay and get this camera and be happy like me.
Customer Review: so far, so good Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this camera to replace my 5MP wide angle PowerShot. Besides being much slimmer and lighter, it has a nice big screen. This camera is so well made, it survived an underwater dunking when I slipped while hiking in Maine and it fell into a crack filled with water. The camera was off at the time, and it went completely under. I thought it would be ruined, but after about 2 days of dryout time, it was as good as new. I don't miss not having a viewfinder, but things are a little crowded on the backside, sometimes I have to put my thumb on the LCD. Also, the power button is right next the the shutter button, and sometimes instead of taking the photo, I accidentally turn the camera off. Otherwise, I have no complaints. It takes beautiful pictures, the video is much better quality then the 5MP version, the battery has good life. I put a screen protector over the LCD, so it does not get scratched. Wide angle is great for landscapes and architecture.
Customer Review: Holy Cow! I love this camera! Summary: 5 Stars
I researched which Canon camera to buy for weeks. I will not buy anything except a Nikon or a Canon. So I bought this because it seemed like it would pay for itself! And it has! It takes great photos, has TONS of features, battery life is really long, and the Image Stabilizer feature is really nice for people with shakey hands like me! I also like the fact that you can record short movies with this for when you don't have your camcorder. I bought a 2MB memory card and I haven't maxed it out yet. Oh, and the 3" display is AWESOME so you can see your pictures larger than other cameras I've seen.
If you're an avid candid photo taker, this is for you when you're out at parties and whatnot. If you're a professional photographer, not quite that good--so stick with a more expensive camera, professionals.
I am going to Vegas in a few months, and I plan on having this camera with me every step of the way! I LOVE THIS CAMERA!
Customer Review: No, it's not a professional camera, but it's perfect for travel! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great little point and shoot camera with tons of little personal options - macro shots, aperture, flash, length of `reload' etc... The digital screen is proportionally huge and the camera itself makes some pretty smart choices. It's perfect for travel - lightweight, compact and fits in small purses or (if you're that type of tourist) on a cord around your neck. We received the camera as a wedding gift and have owned it for over two years. I did have some leakage on the LED screen after accidentally squishing the camera one day - but three days later, the screen had magically repaired itself.
All in all, if you're really really picky about having a professional grade camera or if you're the type of person who edits every picture to remove noise or motion blur or something, then this isn't the camera for you. If you like to record travel, parties and everyday life for fun - this is a smart choice.
Customer Review: Awesome Camera! Summary: 5 Stars
I upgraded to this camera from a Kodak v550. My sister just came back after 3 yrs in Sweden and she has this Canon. I was amazed at the size, picture quality and the huge view screen. One thing I was advised to do is apply the clear screen protector and I did that...it was effortless. My old digital got nasty wear marks on it that would not come off so I am preventing that this time. I recommend it and they come with a cleaning cloth that fits great in the case I got with it. I didn't order mine from Amazon, but the place I did order it from had a bundle deal that consisted of the cam, a case, 2 GB card, a monopod and a longer life battery. I bought the screen protector extra...worth the $3.99 for sure. I love the vividness of the photos and the ease of downloading to my computer. Haven't played with all of the features yet, just got it 2 days ago.
