Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon PowerShot SD880IS 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)Customer Review: Exceeds Expectations Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this product (Canon PowerShot SD880IS 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom) after seeing a friends during a recent cruise.
Previously owned a Sony Cyber-shot 3.2mp - it was an old trusty camera but had a small screen 1.25 X 0.875 and the Canon was much larger.
The cannon has more (and very interesting) features than I will ever use and takes superb pictures - portraits, machinery, indoors and out, close ups (including digital closeup), color transfer, etc.
There are other upper end Canon models but the screen is smaller and the size is slightly larger with even more features.
This one is highly recommended and easy to use.
Be sure to shop for a 4 or 8gb SD Memory card so you can take and store 2,000 + pictures on the camera. The 32mb card with the camera is too small. I also purchased a USB 2.0 SD/SDHC/MMC Card Reader / Writer by HDE for around $[...] which worked great for me (although there were bad reviews - how wrong can you go for [...] bucks - purchase it new)
Enjoy! dennis
Customer Review: A wonderful family camera! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this camera for my wife for a Christmas gift to replace an older PowerShot model we have had for years, and have been nothing but impressed with it.
The easy-to-use interface and large viewing screen have made it a cinch to operate. The wide angle lens is especially nice because it makes you feel like you're capturing more of the actual area of the scene you see with your eyes.
We enjoy how small and compact it is and the rechargeable battery packs hold their charge for weeks at regular use. It's quiet when in use and tucks neatly away when not.
The photos it takes are nothing short of beautiful. The adjustable resolution settings are nice when all you're looking to capture are snap shots, but up to the task when you need a large, high resolution image for the scrapbook or screen saver.
I'm certainly not a camera expert in the sense that I can talk the lingo, but I do know a nice photo when I see one and I recognize that this camera takes very nice photos for any level of user. Nicely done.
Customer Review: Very happy with this purchase & Canon's customer service Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this camera 6 months ago and am very happy with it. I previously owned two Sony Cybershots and had no issues with them, but wanted to try a Canon because of their high reputation. I'm your basic "point and shoot" photographer and rarely use different settings other than Auto but have been very happy with the image quality - if I played around with the settings I'm sure I'd get better results, but no complaints.
I did have a lens error on the camera a couple of weeks ago. This was my fault but since it was still under warrenty I figured I'd try and send it back to see if they'd repair it at no charge. I spoke with a customer service rep who was very helpful and I shipped the camera to their facilites. They sent me notifications when my camera was received, repaired, and shipped, and the camera was back in my hands within a week and a half. Their communication was wonderful!
After being a very satisfied Sony customer, I highly recommend Canon for their cameras and customer service.
Customer Review: Canon PowerShot SD880IS - a good value Summary: 5 Stars
I spent considerable time doing research before purchasing this camera. I looked at all brands and between Consumer Report reviews and talking to other Canon owners decided to go with Canon. Then the real fun began. Comparing one model to another, as well as reading all the reviews. While this camera cost more than I started out wanting to spend, in the end the Canon PowerShot SD880IS was the one I wanted to own. I have been using it for about a month now and so far so good. Initially when I looked at the manual I thought I might have to take a course just to use it. I was wrong. You can use it right out of the box without making any changes. The manual helps you tweak it if you are one that want's hands on control. I like the feel of it in my hand, and the 3 inch LCD screen helps to see what you are shooting. I could say more, but I don't think anybody wants to read that much more. At any rate check out the other reviews and read the description on the camera. Then buy it. Chances are strong you will like it.
Customer Review: Had camera for 6 weeks and Happy Summary: 5 Stars
Pros
- Excellent view finder/photo viewer screen. Very good resolutionon the display. The brightness of the screen adjusts based on situation. Easy to see images even for old eyes.
- I have quickly figured out key functions without reading directions (one of my buyer values.
- I like the zoom as you take the photo as well as the zoom on the resulting image.
- small enough to slide into my pocket like my Blackberry. However, the buttons are intuitive enough that I can operate the small camera.
- We had a nice (expensive) Nikon from about 7 years ago. It was going to cost $150 to fix. We decided to put money into new camera. This was a good choice. Cameras have improved a lot.
Cons
- Occasionally I accidentally navigate into a mode or function on the camera that I don't understand (partly my issues because I haven't read the manual). I simply turn the camera off and back on which gets me back to "normal" mode.
