I bought this camera in January and am very happy with it. I wasn't into photography before but I had to take a still photo class and this was perfect for what I needed. I don't think it's professional quality but it is definitely a step up from any point-and-shoot I've ever used before. I do agree with other reviews that state it has a lot of "noise" at high ISOs but it's still better compared to what I've seen on my older Fuji and Samsung digital cameras.
HOWEVER, I bought this from Amazon in January for $225. I have no idea why it is now almost $700! This is not worth that much money. Please check your prices before you decide to buy this camera! You could probably get one with more megapixels and/or longer zoom for half the price.

Only thing I am UNHAPPY IS THIS CAMERA WAS SOLD AT 256 $ and now it's COST is 239$ on amazon...:( within 15 days...
Nice camera for family trips, fmily occasions..., in home and office. and good for starters too...especially the 10X optical is a bonus...
16MB SD card is a joke I used my 1 GB SD I had ...It stored 350 pics with default setting in auto...I had to replace batteries 2/3 times....if you take videos more , you will need bigger 4 GB SD card..good thing SDHC also works with camera...EXCELLENT HAPPY

I have searched for Olympus (I had an Olympus before)and Canon and after looking through different reviews, I have chosen the Powershot SX100IS. The reason is that this camera has full automatic functionality, plus many manual settings. As I like to play with shutter time etc. to make beautiful pictures at night using a stand I feel that this is one of the best smaller camera's that can do the tircks I want. It's small (smaller then the Olympus I got) with many options. The first battery pack ran down very quickly and I am now testing Alkaline batteries and will buy a set of type 2300 rechargable batteries to test. Still have to perform a lot more tests and settings, but firt impression is very, very good!!!Customer Review: It's great!

I upgraded to this camera from my older Powershot A510 (stolen). It's better in every way. MUCH faster, good battery life, awesome pictures, unbelievable zoom, and image stabilization (I got soooo many fuzzy pictures with the A510 -- not anymore!). It's definitely not compact (fills up my entire jeans pocket), but it takes infinitely better pictures than compact cameras. The software has also gotten much better, and you can finally play videos in ZoomBrowser. It's still not very good at extreme macro shots or low light conditions; but I'm not a pro photographer either, so I rarely mess with the settings. BTW, GREAT bang for the buck.

I went for this camara for the zoom and the price and so far I have been very happy with both. The zoom allows me to get pictures that I couldn't get with my old digital with 3x. The picture quality looks great and even amazes me on the LCD. I was already familuar with the other features because a friend of mine already owns a Canon. Being able to play with his camara and see the stitch mode and the video mode made me jump on the sx100. I knew that my friend's Canon would not allow you to zoom out during movie mode so I was very impressed when I was able to both zoom in and out when taking video on the sx100. This camara will serve me well with a new child on the way.
