I have now owned three different Canon cameras since I bought my first in 1999. My previous camera, an S60 was fantastic due to the fact that I could have more fine-grain control over my pictures than your typical point-and-shoot camera. This camera can do everything the S60 could and has a much higher resolution.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a small camera that allows for more control of over your picture-taking options, without having to buy a high-end digital SLR camera.

This is the first time I have actually sat down to rate a product I purchased.
That is how confident I feel about this product. My wife and I by a point and shoot camera on average every year or so.
We have owed a total of 6-7 cameras. The Canon 990 IS is by FAR the BEST we have ever owned. The quality of the pics is comparable to non-point and shoot cameras that run in the $1,000 range. I could not be happier with this product, and the auto-correct red-eye feature is wonderful!

This little camera fits in a shirt pocket, but the retractable lens provides sharp photos and excellent video. The settings are very easy to control, thanks to the simple buttons on the rear and the clear display. For example, switching to macro or no-flash only takes a second. I got a USB stick with a 16 GB memory card, so I can record an hour of video. The stick transfers images and movies into my Mac without using the Canon software, and the movies are editable in iMovie.Customer Review: Exellent pics light or dark

First off this is by far the nicest point and click camera I've owned. It has more options than any point and click I've ever seen and I can't wait to learn to use them all. It just amazing that a camera this small can do things that a slr can do. The pics have been outstanding, the detail you can get with the camera and the cropping options are so easy to use. I'm really impressed with the pics taken in low light situations. I haven't taken a bad pic yet due to this camera.Customer Review: Best Compact Camera EVER

Ok, my title might be going a bit overboard, but I can honestly say it's the best handheld/compact camera that I've ever owned (& I've owned a LOT over the years). It looks great, it's comfortable in your hand, & it takes amazing pictures! I'm sure some professional will say it's nothing compared to SLR cameras, & in many ways they're right. But, for something this small that fits into your coat pocket, it's a hard little camera to beat!
