Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon Powershot SX110IS 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)

Customer Review: Amazing zoom, great video and high quality results!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, so I went through at least a dozen digital cameras over a number of years. I bought them, used them, found them to not be what I was looking for and sold them. And then I bought this camera. The search was over, this is a great all-around camera at a fair price point that produces quality results. When I bought this camera a few years ago, it was on sale for a little over $200 and was worth every penny.

I go to alot of NHL hockey games. My seats are in the upper level. Though this is a great vantage point for watching the game, its not exactly the best for taking good, close pictures of the game. Well, the amazing zoom on this camera takes care of that! I can zoom in right on a player on the ice and point and shoot a great shot. The image stabilization is great and eliminates the headaches out of what should be fun photography. Whether I want to take a close shot of a specific player, zoom in a bit on some action or take a nice panoramic shot of my view in the arena, this camera does it all!

The video on this camera is also great. It is near-HD quality and a great substitute for a camcorder for most things that you would want to record, provided that you have a high capacity memory card.

Battery drain is not that bad with this camera. I only use rechargeable AA batteries and they rarely ever die during a good hour or more of picture or movie capturing. I always carry an extra set of AA's with me, but I rarely need them.

I haven't really gone thorough all of the settings, I just set my camera for what works for me, wet it to 'favorite' mode and just let it roll. Whether it's a hockey game, a party, a night out, or needing to take good pictures of items to sell on ebay, this camera does the job!

5/5

Customer Review: Another winner from Canon....
Summary: 5 Stars

This Canon SX110IS is as great as all the other reviewers say it is so I won't bore you by repeating all it's great features. I will only bring up a couple of minor things about this camera.
Wish List....
1. The SD card slot was not in the battery compartment.
2. It would be nice to able to "dedicate" the print button (top left on back of camera) to video start and video stop like the Canon ELPH SD1000 is able to do. Turning the top control wheel to video is inconvenient when you want to start filming instantly.
3. Although I don't dislike having AA batteries powering the camera, I would like a solid long lasting rechargeable battery like my SD1000 has. I am suspicious of this 400 shot capability with 2 AA's.
4. One troublesome feature is how easy it is to change the quality of the video with the control wheel on the rear of the camera. A little movement of this wheel changes the video quality and you won't know it until its too late. Changing video quality should have been a drill down menu option instead of a control wheel function.
The above are minor items and in no way take away the quality this camera has. This camera has nice to have features and not a bunch of silly never used features. I love the automatic lens cap, ability to review shots without turning on the whole camera. I love the solid feel and look of this camera, it's well built and small enough to carry around in your pocket or purse. The pictures it takes are Canon quality pictures and to me that means first rate just like my Canon Rebel XT. I've tried other cameras and they are good but to me Canon is the best.

Customer Review: Perfect for the kids or grandpa. All that's needed for home photos.
Summary: 5 Stars

My old PowerShot (2 pixel, 3x zoom) died and I wanted something like it. It's hard to pick a camera, so I decided since I liked what I had, just wanted more zoom and more pixel, why not stick with Canon PowerShot? A wise choice. I am in amateur photography heaven with the choice.

Zoom is all you can handle without tripod. Works good enough to catch the glint on the eye of a deer across our pond. Details include tongues of baby robins being fed worms before their eyes are open. Individual hairs on feathers of birds 50-60 feet away. All with auto-focus point and shoot ease. And fantastic macro capability on the other end of the spectrum.

Batteries last as long as the 4 required in my last camera, but only takes 2 AAs. Since I bought a relative inexpensive half-hour battery recharger set, cost of batteries will be free after a month or two of shooting. Something I recommend. If you travel, then buy batteries to avoid carrying the charger.

No lens replacement capability of a SLR, but I don't need that. One camera fits all my needs, inside and out, landscape and portrait, nature and still life, passive and action shots, in the light or dark.

AND THIS CANON POWERSHOT FITS IN MY SHIRT POCKET.
Image stabilization great for this grandpa shooting grandkids, flowers, and animals.

The only thing I regret about this camera is the fact that I waited until the other camera died before I made my purchase. If your not a professional, enjoy just taking family, vacation, and nature pictures--THEN THIS IS THE CAMERA YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH.

Customer Review: Fantastic Camera - Canon Powershot SX110IS
Summary: 5 Stars

The Canon Powershot SX110IS is a fantastic camera. Before you buy a camera, make sure that you do your research and know what you are buying. I Purchased this camera for 2 main reasons, the 10X Optical Zoom and the 3 inch viewer window. The 10X Optical Zoom is amzing. I take mostly outdoor pictures, so the fact that I need to flip my the flash is not a factor for me. I do not take many indoor action pictures so that 10 second recharge of the flash is not an issue for me. This camera does not have a view finder and again, my former camera did, but I never used it, I always used the view finder so not having a view finder was not an issue for me.

The quality of pictures are 100% what I was looking for. The Camera is easy to hold, the controls are located in perfect spots for me to use. I looked at the A2000IS in addition to the SX110IS and found that the A2000IS was not easy to hold and that the controls were not in easy to operate locations for me.

When I puchased this camera from Amazon.com, I selected the free shipping, the 6-10 day delivery.. I ordered the camera on a Tuesday and it was delivered to my house the very next day, Wednesday. I was expecting the 6-10 day wait and was totally surprised when it was delivered the very next day.

I find the SX110IS is a perfect camera for my needs.. I encourage everyone to do your research before you purchase a camera so that when you purchase a camera, you know what you are buying and you know the pros and cons of every camera.

Customer Review: Met the Need Perfectly
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera for a trip we were about to take because I needed something smaller and lighter than our more expensive Canons, and also wanted to try video. This camera did not disappoint. It is small (we didn't want the newer version because of the larger size and the need for 4 batteries which increases the weight)and it fit in my pocketbook easily. The photos are very, very nice - actually comparable (almost as sharp)as the XTI which takes really gorgeous photos for me. I took photos of the same mountain vistas with both cameras and they are very close in quality.

The video - however - the video was as sharp and clear as I could wish for. We burned them to DVD and viewed on our big screen TV and the clarity of the videos held up great. I found no audio issues - again, very sharp and clear. Only once did wind noise get picked up. The digital zoom for video was poor and I stopped using it right away. When I wanted to zoom, I stopped recording, changed the zoom, and then went right back to recording. Since I did our recordings in fairly short segments, this worked fine.

I was most impressed by the low light capability. We photographed and video'd dark interiors, as well as fast-moving shows on a large stage with mediocre lighting, and it's all clear and bright!

Battery life was great and exceeded my expectations.

No regrets here at all.
