Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon Powershot SX110IS 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)

Customer Review: A bargin with alot of cool features.
Summary: 5 Stars

This camera is a great deal but does have some pros and cons. The good stuff first a nice big LCD screen, strong flash for a point and shoot, alot of adjustments you find on higher end SLR models, great image stablization. The camera is vey sleek and compact and the 10x zoom is alot better than a 4x zoom on point and shoots that are around $200.The flip-up flash is both good and bad.You have to remeber to flip it up but if you are taking pictures somewhere you shouldn't use a flash all you have to do is leave it down on other cameras you have to find the flash off. Also on the selector wheel a couple of the most used modes (party, kids with pets, night snapshot, landscape and portait) all have their own notch. On the down side no veiwfinder (but this keeps the camera small) ,it is slow between pictures and some of the buttons are a little bit too sleek and you have to use the edge of your finger to push them best.Canon put alot of nice features into a small and inexpenise camera. The camera itself dosen't feel cheap and you would think it would cost much more.Unless you really want to get into photography and buy say a SLR with different lens and pay awhole more look no farther this it the best out there for the money.

Customer Review: Better than I expected
Summary: 5 Stars

The feature that made me buy this camera was its image stabilization system. Friends who use digital cameras professionally all told me that Canons optical image stabilized zoom system was the best in its price range. Due to a slowly worsening tremor, this has evolved into an important issue.

The digital zoom is amazingly effective. Recently, I caught a game at Fenway Park. My seat was adjacent to the infamous "Green Monster". From that distance, I was able to take photos of players at bat, that captured detailed facial features. I was even able to get some very respectable images of players in action.

The camera settings are easy to use, and equally easy to access. The Auto setting is fairly idiot proof and does a good job under a wide variety of conditions. I found the SX110 to be solid, well built yet still small enough to fit into a laptop carrying bag.

I never imagined that I would buy anything other than a Nikon, but now I think this was one of the best purchases that I have made in a long time. It delivers on its promises, producing pictures whose quality rivals those of much more expensive digital cameras.

Customer Review: Awesome camera and features, great price!

Ordered this camera from Amazon just before Christmas '08. I've been using Kodak products for the past few years, but my last camera was too clunky and inconvenient to just grab for some quick pictures.

Image stabilization is really great, and with the manual ISO setting up to 1600, you can get really sharp pictures at a distance without using a flash - great for taking shots of the kids at school functions when they're a mile away on a stage.

The video quality is excellent as well, and at 30 fps rivals the quality of my digital video camcorder (also a Canon). Be sure to get a high capacity, high speed SD card as well. I purchased with the camera a SanDisk Extreme III Class 6 8GB card and have been impressed with its performance; with this card I can take over 2000 photos at the highest resolution setting and/or 68 minutes of video.

I also like the fact that the camera uses AA batteries instead of its own proprietary battery. I'm using Rayovac Hybrid rechargeables, and I've only had to change the batteries once in almost 6 months, and that includes a trip to Florida, plus Christmas and birthday pictures.

Customer Review: Great Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

This camera has alot of features and settings you can adjust which might seem a little intimidating if your not a pro but it is really easy to use. The menu is clear and I like how you can view everything (settings) on the screen. Speaking of the screen, this camera has a large (3") one and is easily viewable in bright sunlight unlike older lcd displays. The preset picture settings are handy and work well, Sunset and Landscape are great! The 10X optical makes the zoom very clear and the automatic image stabilizer is very helpfull especially when zoomed in on a distant object. I do like how it uses regular batteries (2 AA's) over using a battery pack. It does consume alot of juice but I tried the Energizer Ultimate Lithum batteries and they last much, much longer. Don't bother using the supplied 32mb memory card it holds very little. Just buy the Transcend 8GB HDSC card and this camera will take thousands of pics even on the highest resolution setting.
Overall this camera is a good size, has great zoom, is easy to use, takes excellent pictures, and is a good price for how many features it has.

Customer Review: A fantastic camera that delivers great photos.

We purchased this camera after much research on Amazon and other sites. We previously had a Canon Powershot 530 that died after years of great service. We narrowed our choices down to the SX110 and the SX200 and decided on the SX110 because of price and overall it had slightly better reviews.
We have had the camera for about a month and are totally pleased with the pictures and the features. It is easy to use and all of the settings are intuitive, once you go through the manual.
The LCD screen is bright; we were concerned about not having a viewfinder but this has not been a problem. The face recognition feature is a great touch and works as described. We have been exceptionally pleased with the image quality.
It does a better than average job with red-eye reduction. The megazoom feature is flat-out amazing. We were able to take clear pictures at a ballgame with the 40X digital zoom feature without a tripod.
This camera has exceeded our expectations. This will be a great companion to our Nikon SLR. An excellent product.
