Customer Review: Decent, but not entirely worth it.

PROS:
+ affordable way to have remote, wireless triggering.
+ unbelievably efficient battery life.
+ very straight-forward and easy to learn the controls.
+ very lightweight.
CONS:
- unsatisfactory range.
- has to be within "view" of the slave light source.
- any small obstructions between transmitter and receiver results in communication loss.
This is a fun transmitter to fool around with when just starting out with wireless triggering and studio shooting. But unfortunately, after just a few times of using it, I outgrew it's pretty meager capabilities. Unless you shoot a lot in nightclubs or small events, I HIGHLY recommend that you instead save up more money and invest in Pocket Wizards.

I'm not impressed for several reasons:
1) The build quality is poor... feels more like a toy compared with the flashes
2) The thing didn't come with a battery, and uses an obscure battery type
3) There is no sealing or locking mechanism for the hot shoe... you'll put it on a $250 flash, but not a $250 transmitter?
4) No second curtain control... this is a big boooo to canon in general, who has turned their back on pro strobists and advanced hobbyists alike.
Not sure I'm going to keep it, rather than spend $55 on a 30 foot ebay OCE3 cable that will maintain my rear curtain and doesn't need line of sight...
Come on, Canon... get with the game.

I really like this Transmitter don't get me wrong. But frankly I mostly do Automotive shoots and it can get quite limiting, namely because the IR sensors have to be facing each other, which means that you have to move the flash positions to face the camera and transmitter each time you change your lighting set up....it also means you can be creative and put a flash behind a car or wall as the signal won't reach behind obstacles of any kind. I would invest in a Pocket Wizard system which is much better which is what I'm saving up for now. But this is nevertheless a decent item to have if you have some Canon flashes and want to experiment with wireless flash set ups.Customer Review: Good - but arrived without a battery!!

So i bought this product and assumed the battery was included. Amazon is very good at letting you if the product requires any other gadgets as you shop. Some would say thats not a big deal, just buy one from your local electronics store. For me, i live in antigua, our electronic stores are poorly stocked! When this unit arrived i had a off location wedding shoot in a cave the next day. I was mortified to find no battery!!! thank god my assistant has the same unit and the day proceed. Besides the battery nightmare, i found the unit works well as most of my shoots are in remote locations without power. the signal is an issue as reported in other reviews.Customer Review: In the line of sight, it's OK

The limitation of this set-up with 1 580 EX II and a 580 EX is that it is line of sight out to about 50 feet indoors. With strategically placed mirrors you can fire the slaves around corners or opaque umbrellas. I would have preferred Radio Poppers, but they are still not in production on the new version. If you need camera control over the flash, for now this is the only way you cn go.
