First of all, I'm not a pro user, but I love filming my family and taking pictures, so we all have something to look back on. I compared several camcorders, including JVC, Toshiba, and Sony models. After reading the specs., the Canon HF R100 was at the top of my list. I looked over the recommended class memory card and noticed that class 4 memory was a minimum recommended requirement and class 6 was highly recommended. I ordered 32GB, class 6 memory on-line, but I didn't have it for Christmas, so I used my 4GB, class 4 memory to record the highest quality video clips using FXP. At this quality, on a 4GB memory card, I got 32 minutes of recording, which was satisfactory for what I was filming. I had several clips that I added together, so that it appeared to be one video clip on Blu-ray and DVD. I used the digital effect option on the camcorder to add a fade out on the last video clip. I really appreciated Canon packaging their own tools with the camcorder, which made writing Blu-ray and DVDs very easy. I created two DVDs for comparison. One was in AVCHD format and the other was written using Standard Definition format. The AVCHD was superior on my Blu-ray disc player, but I also played the SD DVD and it looked much better than my Hitachi camcorder that writes video directly to DVD. Since I knew my video clips were going to contain a lot of movement, I set the scene programming to Sports and I also kept the default of not using the digital zoom. It's very rare that I've ever used the digital zoom on camcorders or cameras, since many times video and picture quality are degraded. I'll have to test this with my camcorder.
I haven't had any issues with any of the hardware or software.
I'm very pleased with this camcorder. Since I have the 32GB memory card now, my plan is to purchase the 4 hour or 8 hour battery.
