I did a lot of research of HD camcorders and am very pleased with the choice I made with the Canon Vixia HF10. It is a very simple camera to use and is packed with a lot of great features. HD camcorders are more expensive than the standard definiton, but I suggest to go the HD way. The 16G built-in memory is excellent and it's nice to not have the tapes to deal with. The HF11 is a little more in price with twice the built-in memory, but if you choose the HF10 you can always purchase a memory card. The HF10 model is very small and doesn't take a lot of room. It doesn't come with a case, but you should get one. Excellent camera!!!Customer Review: Really, really good

Video quality and color is superb. Small and light. Image stabilizer works well. Long optical zoom. Low light level capture is very, very good. Audio quality and sensitivity is very good. Easy to use and fast to start up. Built-in automatic lens cap/protection. 5MP still shots are quite good. Nice looking black finish.
With an extra 16GB of memory (about $35) I can capture over 3 hours of video on the highest quality settings.
Could be better:
Battery that comes with it is only good for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours of shooting.
Does not come with a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable.

My overall on this is that if you want an AVCHD camcorder, this is by far one of the best in the consumer category. It uses a high-quality Canon glass lens and Canon's renowned auto-focus system which is critical when shooting fast moving kids. The detail and color are great.
Being an iPhone owner, I would say that the menu system of this camcorder is not intuitive. It is far better than the Sony camcorders in my impression, but hardly close to the ease-of-use I have become accustomed to with the iPhone. The battery life is also less than stellar.
I highly recommend this camcorder.

We ordered this video camera to video tape our daughter's indoor swim meet. It arrived just a a day before the meet, but it was very easy to use and after just a few minutes of practice we were ready to go. The camera has a variety of settings to use indoors, outdoors, etc. and the menu to navigate all the settings is very easy to use. We did not have a tripod, but the camera is a good size and weight and good stabilization, so even though we hand-held it, the picture was steady. The zoom is also excellent and the picture held steady even in zoom. We would recommend this to any family.Customer Review: Surprised at quality

I bought a top of the line SD camera with a 50 zoom. I could not stand the "video tape quality" of the video so I got this HD one. I am new to camcorders but good with electronics. I am amazed with the quality of the sound and HD video. The controls seem quite intuitive and I think they have got their act together. I am not easy to please but if this holds up over time I will be further amazed as things are not built to last these days. This is not good. Have to have the AVCHD recorder DW100 to use this. Seems most Bluray players play AVCHD these days.
