I purchased this camcorder for my teenage son for Christmas. He loves the quality and the fact that it is high definition. He can review his movies on HDTV and everyone can see what he has taped. He has edited many of his movies on the computer, adding special effects that is easy and fun for him to do. The picture quality is great! A rare consumer-grade camera that has a lot of pro features. Can shoot in 24p HDV... what every film student has been dreaming of!
Also the camera can go fully manual and has fantastic image quality for a camera of this size and cost. Crisp and good colors.
Get a beachtek XLR adaptor and a good tripod and you are in business!

First impression: Great looking video camera. If the HV20 was the Mercedes of the Canon line, this is a Bentley.
Video quality: Simply the best. Forget AVCHD. If you are looking for superb High Def. video, you just found it.
Value: For under a grand, no one else comes close.

I have only used it for a half hour now, but it's a very nice camera. The low light recordings are not the best, but i have nothing else bad to say about it. I shopped around quite a bit. Returned a std def. Panasonic. This camera is easy to use and shoots great video. I shot my nephew's football game at night in the rain and could not get over the quality of the video even at the long distance. Very pleased.
