Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon WC-DC58A Wide Converter Lens for the S5 IS, S3 IS & S2 IS Digital CameraCustomer Review: just some more info Summary: 5 Stars
I highly recommend the Raynox DCR 1540Pro Teleconverter for the Canon S2 instead of the Canon branded one. Hoya makes a 67mm UV filter for this and both are available at Lensmate.com. The Canon WC-DC58A wide angle converter however is really good. Tiffen made a better one but it seems to not be available anymore.
By the way, the function that the S2 provides for settings using the lens adaptors and teleconvertors are to adjust for the AutoFocus function of the camera and are necessary unless you wish to try to focus yourself using the manual focus which, in my mind, because of the LCD both in the screen as well as in the viewfinder with a lower resolution than an optical viewfinder, is iffy at best. Trust the camera.....it really does an excellent job. One final note, I would recommend using the Focus Bracketing option in lower light situations as the Auto Focus is weak in those situations.
Customer Review: Gave my camera more functionality Summary: 5 Stars
The other reviews are spot-on: It is well constructed. There is a little blur at high magnification. There is some distortion at the edges. You can't use it with the on-board flash because it blocks a portion of the light.
I am getting more and more into digital photography and I will eventually have to upgrade to a more professional DSLR camera, but this lens has added a feature to my Canon S5 IS that it was lacking and for that it is well worth the price. I am going to stick with this camera for a while longer. I am very happy with this purchase.
Customer Review: Best Glass I have come across Summary: 5 Stars
+ Extra wide shots
+ Less distortion at greater zoom
- High price
- Heavy lens
I have used this lens with the S3 and the S5 as well as the Digital Innovations brand lens, the Canon lens is worth the extra money. It is one of the only .75 lenses that can be used for a 58 mm adapter and much better quality. You only get distortion at the most zoomed in points and is not as extreme as with other brands. It is a lot of money but if you care about how your photos come out it is worth it.
Customer Review: Excellent Lens Summary: 5 Stars
Received this lens converter today and took a few interior shots with it to assure it's condition. I am extremely pleased with this lens. It is of the highest quality and delivers sharp clear pictures with a much wider field of view than the S5IS lens is capable of without it. I used a Canon 220EX flash and obtained excellent results.
I would highly recommend this lens converter to any S5IS owner who wants a wide angle lens with Canon's quality.
Customer Review: Shipping method Summary: 5 Stars
On this, and the last purchase from Amazon I believe you used shipping by DHL. both times after the shipment arrived in my city, St. George, Utah, instead of delivering the package, they put it in the U.S. mail which then goes to northern Utah and back to St. George a day or two later. This day or two delay in deliveryis is most aggravating.
