Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Canon imageCLASS MF4150 Laser Duplex P/s/c/f 21PPM AdfCustomer Review: So Far So Good Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I decided to switch from a Lexmark X1100 all in one printer which has served us well for a number of years. The only issue was the ink. I guess it was the 'use it or lose it' principle. We do not print very often and I tired of purchasing a new ink cartridge only for a few printouts. I tried so many tricks try to conserve the ink, but in the end the cartridges always dried out. I even tried refilling the ink myself, that was successful, but I soon tired of that as well.
We analyzed exactly how much color printing we do at home. We do not print out photos on our printer. It is much cheaper and easier to use Shutterfly, Snapfish, Target, etc. to print out pictures. Just upload and they are delivered to the house. Also when we really thought about it we did not need to print color copies.
After careful review, we chose this Canon MF4150. It arrived quickly and we have had no issues with it. We have used it for double sided printing, b/w copies and scanning in magazines and old photos. It starts up quickly and prints a lot faster than my old x1100. The best part is since we may still print infrequently, we do not have to worry if the ink nozzles are clogged. Just hit the print button, the printer fires up, and out comes the document.
This printer has all of the features we were looking for, including duplex printing to save paper.
Customer Review: Great for Home Office NOT the Office Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this last year after thanksgiving for our home office so my wife could work from the house while she was on maternity leave. IT IS GREAT!!! Printing quality if professional. Scanning . . . I can't say enough, it has document feeding capability for scanning so you can scan LARGE documents in seconds (on the lower scan settings). This machine isn't really designed for photos but I even put photos in the feed through scanner and it worked great for lower quality scans and doing them one at a time yielded near perfect results. The fax portion is not very user friendly but is functional for home office use. We have found we use the copier part more than we expected for home use, making copies of receipts and materials. As everyone else has said, duplexing is also a great feature that we use regularly.
My ONLY complaints are: 1) the glass is only letter size instead of legal size (you can still scan loose legal through the feeder but I like to copy two pages of a book onto one side of paper and can't do with this size glass even when zoomed out); 2) THIS IS NOT FOR REGULAR OFFICE USE the Cartridge won't last long enough - I'm just now replacing the cartridge at home (1 year later) and I feel like I've done a ton of printing but nothing like a regular office.
Its perfect for an all-in-one home office printer/fax/copier/scanner.
Customer Review: Completely Satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a multifunction laser printer that had a sheet feeder, duplex capability for a good price and I found one. This has a ton of features and good quality. I have been using this for 6 months now and have nothing to complain about. I would recommend it to anyone.
Pros:
The duplex feature is great, it save a lot on paper.
Scanning is quick compared to my HP Officejet
Better scanning and printing software than Brother or HP
Small footprint
Quiet operation
Prints quick
Holds a lot of paper
Prints envelopes a lot better than my HP Officejet
It prints sharp and clear
Cons:
The sheet feeder jams if you use thin or wrinkled paper but it work flawlessly on regular copy paper and had very few problems with the sheet feeder.
The printer will say it is out of toner well before it is but you can get around this by taking out the toner cartridge and shaking it. I get around 1800 pages per cartridge. My old inkjet only got me around 500 pages per cartridge and those cartridges were going for $30 a pop while you can pick up the 104 toner cartridge for under $70 and get more pages with better printing and clearer, sharper text and graphics.
Out of the 4 or 5 multifunction printers I have had, this one is definitely the best one I have owned.
Customer Review: Buy a PC already. Summary: 5 Stars
Have you noticed how for many great products, the only negative comments come from Mac users who can't get it to work with their overpriced and underpowered computers? And yet it's Windows that's supposedly so inferior?
Anyway, this is a terrific machine for the money, and being able to have access to equipment like this is part of the reason I put up with Windows (and I am a determined Vista-avoider for the same reason I have no interest in a Mac).
Printing is plenty fast for SOHO use. First page is 10-12 seconds when you're running out the door. The duplexer actually works -- though it's too slow for high volume. And the sheet feeder actually works! Just a sheet fed scanner this good could cost $300 or $400.
The Canon drivers and software (for XP, anyway) are reliable and powerful.
The killer feature, to me, is that I can put a stack of paper documents in the sheet feeder, push one button, and a multipage pdf lands on my (Windows) desktop. That by itself makes my day at tax time. SOHO folks can use this to scan receipts and other paperwork and eliminate a lot of paper filing.
There's really nothing not to like. Typical great Canon performance and reliable for us after six months.
Customer Review: Great Machine, Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
This is an absolutely fabulous machine. It replaced my Brother MFC that finally died after years of use. This is my first MFC with a flatbed included. This feature is so great - now my device doubles as a photo scanner as well as my home office machine. Key features:
1 - Scans with great quality. I scanned some 8x10's and had them printed from an online site at 8x10 and they were as perfect as the original.
2 - Double-Sided printing. This is a great feature which allows you to save lots of paper on printing.
3 - Tough. I have three little kids (5,4,3). They love to copy pictures out of books or copy the pictures they have drawn and pass them out to family members. It has held up to their not so gentle use.
4 - Fast. Prints very fast.
5 - Quiet. When not printing, is absolutely silent, then warms up quickly to print. Printing I guess could be a bit quieter, but this is similar to any other machine I have used.
Overall, this was a great purchase. The only thing I would change is to make it so you can keep the paper door closed. It is actually open with the paper exposed during use...not closed as it shows in the picture unless you keep the paper level low and allow the paper to fold up when shut.
